“Lovely Gite in the Loire Valley”
Reviewed 27 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

We stayed for 10 days in this pretty little Gite which is a perfect base to explore the region. Sylvie, the owner, is one of the loveliest, warmest ladies we have met and she could not be more helpful, answering my questions before arrival and on hand yet not intrusive, during our stay (and speaks good English although she won't admit it). The Gite is attached to Sylvies main house but it's very private. There is a little courtyard at the back (which was ideal for our dog). Genille is quite small but there is a supermarket over the road which has all your essentials plus a lovely restaurant within walking distance. We visited Loches frequently only being 10 minutes away plus Montrichard, Montresor, Amboise, Chinon and Saumur to name a few and all very pretty. Worth checking out what's on in the area as we stumbled across a big vintage market in Saumur which was excellent, plus a music festival in Loches (so there's lots to see and do). I'd highly recommend staying here. Thank you Sylvie for helping to make our holiday so perfect. We will be back!

“Wonderful”
Reviewed 24 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

The gite was homely with evey thing we needed. Sylvie made us feel welcome and at home. The property is in an area where there is plenty to do. Beautiful country side and interesting historical buildings. There is plenty to do and see.

We would definitely return for another lovely stay, well care for gite with character. Loches is 10 minutes away with its old streets, chateau and great places to eat, not overly a large town but full of history.

“Adorable!”
Reviewed 10 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We enjoyed a lovely week in this spotless and tastefully presented little gite. It is well situated at the edge of Genille (boulangerie, bar, restaurant, supermarket, swimming pool all within walking distance). It's just a 10 minute drive to the medieval city of Loches, the charming town of Montresor and there is a large lake nearby for swimming, boating and fishing. We also enjoyed the nearby (dog friendly) Chateau of Montpoupon with its amazing hunting museum. You will get a very warm welcome from Sylvie and Philippe at Les Carres and will find the gite perfect for two people - with a good bathroom and spacious bedroom, opening onto a small enclosed outdoor space. Our dog loved the walks by the river just round the corner - this gite is great value for money - Merci beaucoup Sylvie!

“Dreamy!”

With pleasure I don't mind at all taking the time to point any readers to the photographs and write up of this little jewel of a "gite" in the heart of the Loire Valley (Genille, France) in France.

Sylvie and her husband Philippe offer their gite to anyone wanting to tuck themselves into the heart of the Loire Valley in order to explore the many MANY chateau in the region. The gite, called "Les Carres" is clean, classic, cozy, and has all of the amenities to make our month long stay this summer a dreamy experience. They are located in a tiny little town called Genille which is in itself adorable but is conveniently next door to a more bustling market town called Loches.

I slept in the bedroom that included french doors that opened onto a private patio surrounded by rose bushes and a cherry tree. My teen son pulled out the futon couch and was comfortable in the main living space.

We only had to go about 7 min to the nearby village of Loches to do our market shopping. There was also a large Super U grocery store in Loches to buy non-market items. Each day we could roll over the beautiful Loire Valley to visit one enchanting castle after another and return to quiet evenings reading, cooking, and relaxing. Please visit my blog "Thyme" for much more on this little home away from home. I am definitely planning on a return visit during the fall to experience the change of seasons of the region.

“GREAT LOCATION FOR DAY TRIPS”

The gite at Les Carres in Genille (near Montresor) as offered by Sylvie & Philipe Grondin is a rare and affordable treasure to find.
We have biked throughout the Loire Valley in late May for nearly twenty years. We have stayed overnight, or for several days, in at least 30 towns throughout the Loire region. The majority of stays in the many towns were pleasant. Over the years we revisited several that had become favorites.
Seven years ago we discovered the gite at Les Carres in the small ancient town of Genille and stayed for two weeks. We have returned every year since. Les Carres’ gite is geographically situated in a culturally rich region near Loches / Chedigny / Chenonceau / Montrichard / Montresor / Blere / and an easy auto drive to the major city of Tours.
We particularly like that two of the better farmers’ markets in the region (Loches & Montrichard) are a short drive away and on different days. The gite has a small kitchenette but we have managed incredibly wonderful and delicious meals there.
There is a lovely shaded small river about 4 minutes walk from the gite. Numerous hiking and biking routes throughout the area. Huit a Huit convenience store nearby.
We highly recommend the gite at Les Carres in Genille.

“A perfect gîte”

We have stayed at this gîte about six times and would never choose anywhere else when visiting the area. It is perfect for a couple and you really feel you are on holiday the moment you drive through the big gateway.
The hosts, Sylvie and Philippe, will go out of their way to help you but they are never 'in your face' even though they live right next door.
The gîte is cosy and very well equipped and it is perfectly placed for visiting the beautiful Loire Valley. For example, the town of Amboise and the château of Chenonceau are only about 25 minutes away by car. You can also be in the old town of Loches in about 10 minutes.
We came across the gîte by accident around 15 years ago and we are so pleased we did. We recommend this gîte for anyone wanting a relaxing base from which to explore the Loire Valley.
