This is the second time we have enjoyed the two night break in 8 months. The service albeit from mainly young staff could not be faulted they were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The food on both evenings was excellent, good portions, nicely presented and tasty. Val Boyers was superb and her singing in the Bistro was intimate and relaxed. The bedrooms are individual and yes there is a small amount of noise occasionally to be expected. I slept like a log both nights !!! Yes the hotel is quirky it is small and old, but that's part of its charm. If you want 5 star luxury and high prices then go elsewhere. This break offers excellent value for money. Give it a go you won,t be disappointed.

Dear Pontelandords

Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review.

Chapters Building is a 250 year old listed building and we have always tried to be sympathetic to it's character.

Val is such a popular lady here at Chapters, and as well as her playing twice a month, she does actually perform at the majority of the functions held here too.....

We are pleased to hear that you have enjoyed your time here and do look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

I have passed your comments onto the whole team and especially to Victor (GM) and Victoria (Head Chef) so they can relay them to their teams.

Best Wishes

Steven

Booked the Restaurant for the Val Boyers night, sadly the restaurant was closed and everyone was crammed in the bistro, did not know until we arrived that Restaurant was not open. Bistro is okay, but small tables and little atmosphere. Due to the layout of the Bistro we could not hear Val and the noise from the bar spoilt the meal - Not happy and sadly will not return, feel rather cheated.
Food is good, wine is good but for the experience we had I feel it was over priced. Bar and waiting staff very young and sadly this shows.
We like to spend money on good food and wine but sadly this failed a test.

Dear Dannyairedale

We do thank you for taking the time to write to us regarding your recent visit here at Chapters. We are saddened to hear that you did not enjoy your time with us.

Val always plays in the bistro part of our hotel on her Friday evening.

Victor, the General Manager has taken your comments on board

Victor does take pride in training his staff to a high level and I do know he has printed your comments out to raise with them at the next staff meeting.

Victor has always given the younger age group of staff the chance of employment here.

We do hope that you give us another chance to change your opinion of Chapters Hotel.

Regards

Steven

Was looking forward to staying in this lovely hotel & village rather than staying in a chain hotel. Room was very nice & I my booking requests had been noted. The bed was comfortable if a little short for me and the bathroom was well appointed.
What disappointed was the heat in the room. While the radiator could be turned off the room had large diameter pipes that were blisteringly hot - the room would not cool down. Lovely sash windows but I had to jam them open with a book.
The noise insulation from the bar below and the rom above was non existent. It was so noisy that I would not stay again unless no other rooms were booked out!
The breakfast was excellent.
On check out I was not asked if I had had a good stay.

Room Tip: Don't take room 4 if you want a quiet night. Can't comment on the other rooms.

Dear Biff61

I do thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent review of Chapters Hotel.

I was disappointed to hear that you have not enjoyed your time here with us.

I have noted your comments regarding the sash window and we are currently rectifying this. The windows normally stay open when pushed up to a certain height and so for it to fall back down we are sorting this issue.

The bed length in the room - all our beds are either standard doubles and are either like the bed in Room 4 or have bed posts. We do have or king size in our executive rooms.

With regards to the heating, the inclemental weather we are having at the moment really does restrict us with regards to our heating times for example if we put the heating on timer, and the weather suddenly turns cold, we get comments regarding this. Though also when we set the heating on constant and it gets warmer suddenly then we also get comments. This is now why we ask our guests to set the temperature themselves in their rooms.

We have reduced the music levels at the bottom end of the bistro with regards to your comments about the noise.

We do hope you come back again and try us so that you can see the improvements, we have made

Regards

Steven

It's been a while since we've been here but it's still very good. I booked it as a surprise anniversary meal for my good lady. We were slightly late but welcomed with enthusiasm by the staff. Really good starter, I had the black pudding and the belly pork as a main. My wife had the cheese soufflé and chicken. The staff (all very young) were very friendly. The wine was good but slightly over priced.

Just spent a very enjoyable night in Chapters. Building is a bit of a warren of stairs but given its age, and charm, this was expected. Room was very clean, the shower was great and the bed was very comfortable. Service was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was simply fabulous. Freshly cooked and excellent. I would recommend on that alone! So much nicer than a soulless Travellodge etc. I give it 4 only on the basis that parking on a Saturday is a challenge (it uses the very large parking area in the market square) - not their fault I know! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Avoid the front rooms on market days - noisy (they are above the bar as well.)

We are over the moon to hear that you have enjoyed your time here with us. Comments such as yours really do make us realise that we must be doing things right.

The car parking is always a frustration for our guests and also our staff especially Fridays too.

I picked this Hotel on the strength of it's reviews, but although the food was splendid; superb haddock risotto and excellent veg, the staff were decidedly lacklustre in terms of service.
The room was clean but shabby with the two flights of stairs depressing and in need of redecorating

Dear Br1dgewater

We thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your stay here at Chapters Hotel. We have tried to contact you personally to solve any issues you may have had.

We do continuously update the hotel, but as you can imagine with a 250 year old listed building, there are some areas, (such as the 1st to 2nd floor staircase) which we are quite restricted with changing.

We recently completed a full decoration of the reception areas on the ground floor, including the first staircase.

We do hope you will return again in the near future to see our improvements.

Regards

Steven

Just returned today from a night at Chapters having booked the Gourmet stay. We stayed in room 1 our friends in room 2. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable with a view looking out onto the pretty market square. From arriving at reception and being greeted by the ever so helpful General Manager this set the tone for our stay. Staff obviously follow the lead and nothing is too much trouble. I doubt it is impossible for them to say "no". Their manner is friendly and helpful without being overbearing. The meal in the restaurant was very good and service yet again first class. I did wonder having booked the package whether we would be paying supplements for certain foods but everything on the menu was included unless you chose extra side dishes (which you really do not need as the meal is plentiful). Breakfast the following morning was equally as good in a nice relaxing atmosphere. Overall the gourmet stay is great value for money and well worth it. All four of us would definitely return and would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you for a very enjoyable weekend.
