“Great Cafe - You have visit AND try the cookies”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

What a gem of a café. It is a very cute, tiny café outside of town and people drive miles to visit it. There are many other cafes in town and they do not have a line. This place is packed an for good reason. The food is very good. They are known for their baked goods. They have cookies the size of butter plates that are out of this world with standard and specialty flavors. Buy some to take home. :-) The muffins looked delightful.

There are about three tables inside and a nice pull up to the bar on the front porch. There is a line, service can be slow but everyone waits for the great food.

The owner of the place is wonderful. She would be a huge success in the lower 48.

If you are in Kodiak, this is a must visit.

“Marvelous cafe w/ great food”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

The Java Flats Cafe is outside of Kodiak City & requires a bit of a jaunt to reach -- but is really well worth the time and effort. They offer an expansive menu of breakfast & lunch items, all of which are very reasonably priced, and freshly-made with the best natural ingredients... I make a point to eat breakfast here at least once during my visits to Kodiak, and really enjoy their breakfast burritos (which are filled with cheese, and can be made either with or w/o meat) -- I often order mine with a side of toast made from their homemade breads (instead of tortilla chips). Their coffee is excellent -- and you can't leave the place until you've sampled one (or more!) of their huge, super delicious cookies... these are baked fresh every day, and are filled with a marvelous combination of nuts, fruits, and healthy grains too (great gift items to bring back home). The service is super friendly & fast, and the cafe is filled with light-colored wood crafted by local artisans (very comfy & homey setting indeed). For anglers, Java Flats is located on the way out to the many fishing spots on the road system -- and they are open very early as well (quite handy for fisher folks). Enjoy!

Java Flats has the best sandwiches and cookies I've ever ate. They are always friendly, the decorations and beautiful furniture make it a perfect place to have lunch with a friend. Love this place.

“One of the best lunch spots in Kodiak”
Reviewed 16 January 2014

Just moved to Kodiak about 6 months ago, and Java Flats is on my very short list of local places I'd recommend going to grab something to eat. Fresh ingredients, delicious sandwiches, and very, very good (and huge) cookies. The chocolate peanut butter swirl cookie is fabulous. Good selection of tea, too. Check it out, it's much better than most of the restaurants in town!
