“Well run resort in a beautiful setting--worth taking two ferries to get to.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2011

We drove from Victoria to explore Cortes Island and decided to stay at Gorge Harbour based on the great customer service we had on the phone booking, and the pictures of the pool and hot tub--it's just not a vacation unless you can lounge around a pool, right?

The campground was a bit crowded, and there were some people playing music and chatting until the wee hours of the morning, but generally everyone in the RV area was respectful and friendly. The musical groups the resort books in the evenings was a nice touch, as were the yoga sessions. . . The staff really makes an effort to please the marine travelers, the RV crowd and the families/couples staying in the hotel and cabin rooms.

The pool is a contentious issue as we had to share it with local residents, but I can see where the resort needs to balance it's role as a community partner along with the satisfaction of the guests--maybe setting aside a couple hours a day for the locals is the solution, but given the excellent lake swimming I can see where looking forward to an evening hot tub after work could be a big draw too. . .

Of course, one of the reasons to visit the Desolation Sound area is to swim in the ocean, and the temperature of the water up here certainly allows one to do that, too!

We enjoyed our stay, and didn't have any disappointments with the resort.

Room Tip: book the cabin closest the pool only if you can put up with screaming kids throughout the day.

During our recent trip to Desolation Sound, we felt like we needed a place to recharge after 8 days on our boat. Gorge Harbour Marina was perfect. Traveling with 2 children, the pool (closes at 7:00???) and hot tub was perfect and a great change from beach combing and inland lakes. As well, there is a kids play area, beach volleyball, plus a great little store with candy. For a 1-2 night stay, this was perfect. The grounds are beautiful, and lots of space to get off your boat. I understand the restaurant is spectacular, but we didn't get a visit in, as it didn't appear to be overly kid friendly.

However, the staff are very professional. Lots of assistance mooring. There are some spectacular boats at the marina, but also some older, smaller vessels, as we had. Showers are great. They come pick up garbage for $5, and they have a tremendous recycling depot. Definately save all recycling, and your sorting will not have gone to waste.

The store also had some very fresh bread (unlike Refuge Cove), and some pretty good veggies and salad.

For $1.50 per foot - definately worth our while. I would highly recommend. Staying here a night made it much easier to do a second week onboard.

The owners of this completely updated resort and marina did an awesome job!The dock for boaters is 1st class, with great tie up and shore power, showers and laundry and a pretty well stocked store ( both tackle and boat hardware as well as food items). There is a BBQ area and a fire pit area (wood supplied) well maintained! We stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage that had flat screen tv,all stainless appliances really well stocked kitchen (no laundry in unit, but there is one for guests on the property) tiled bathroom with a 2 seat jacuzzi tub! But for us the biggest seller was the pool and hot tub just steps away from our room ....the whole reason we came back again this year...BUT to OUR HORROR the management has opened the pool to ANYONE! CARLOADS of CHILDREN arrived with 1 adult per 3-5 kids and completely took over! As paying guests there was not a chair open nor could we fit in anywhere all the way til closing at 7pm! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! They just kept arriving! So unless there is a policy change DO NOT COME HERE FOR THE POOL OR QUIET! All else was perfect.Maybe they could add something as simple as guest only hour or something, truly disappointing!
