“dreadful and expensive”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Have visited many times over last ten years the last two years the food has gone from excellent to dreadful what a dissapointment such a good establishment has been destroyed. Service now virtually serve yourself twice told to go to bar to order then get bill. Costs been cut everywhere quality of condiments been slashed portions reduced , not good enough for a quality establishment in beautiful location

“Very disappointed”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

We pop here for drinks quite regularly, but we haven't eaten in the restaurant for a while, last time it was excellent, with a great menu, so we thought we would treat ourselves. Very disappointed that half the things on the menu weren't available, and the menu has changed to standard pub food, they didn't have chips, offering mash potato to accompany a burger. They had jacket potato but apparently are incapable of turning a potato into chips. I settled for the seafood platter, although they had no prawns, they said they would give extra of the other items, i said extra crab would be fine. The platter was ok, and my wifes curry was as good as jar curry can be. Then when we had to pay the bill they decided to charge extra for the crab! I have come away feeling conned and disappointed, they ruined our treat. We won't recommend this to anyone and definitely won't be eating here again.

“Worst food we've ever had”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

Should of realised when the place was empty what was coming..... I could go on all night but the most shocking thing was a piece of carrier bag in the thai green curry which they denied and said was lemon grass my daughter left her 2 courses but we were still expected to pay in full. Awful experience

Thank you very much for your review your comments have been duly noted I notice you say how quiet it was we have had issues with trolls of late and I will give you the benefit of the doubt but your comments have been reported I am suspicious as at the time of your visit thai green curry wasn't available. The Inn on the Shore is a fantastic business with a huge turnover we are seasonal and took a heck of a battering during the storms at the early part of the year which caused structural damage and sand blasted the paintwork all of which are now under repair the Inn on the Shore serves excellent food but not of the brewers fair ilk next time you visit an eatery
tell them you don't want lemon grass.

“Wonderful views”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

I visit this pub at least nice a year when I'm in the area. This year it was just as good as other years. Superb location right on the cliffs, with two patio area, both with lovely sea views. When the sun shines this place sparkles.

Had a very nice rib eye steak. Good quality meat, average price, but also cooked perfectly. Very good selection of meals in the restaurant. Beers also well kept.

Will continue to visit when I'm in the area.

“Oh dear, just not good enough - great location though!”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

We were in Downderry for 8 days and went for lunch on one day which wasn't too bad although they didn't have half the stuff on the menu and the fishcakes were like a "hunt the fish" contest being mostly potato and thick breadcrumb crust. Then we went for Sunday Carvery which was unbelievably bad. Nothing ready at 12 noon, still waiting 1245, beef so rare to be almost raw, turkey not cooked either, frozen tasteless veg, Just awful. To their credit we didn't pay for most of it and I felt sorry for the staff, but this place really needs someone to run a tight ship as at the moment it's almost on the rocks. It was very quiet on both days despite glorious weather. Says it all really. Great location, deserves better. Or perhaps forget the food and just be a great pub!
