“one night stopover - don't eat at the White Swan Pub”
Reviewed 25 August 2012

We were starting off our holiday with friends who had come over from Canada with a stay at this hotel as we had a very early morning flight.
The hotel is friendly, tired, but clean and very helpful, however after travelling up for the night we decided to have a meal there (there are no local restaurants or pubs) there was only two places to eat, at the hotel its self (The restaurant which was very expensive) or in the White Swan pub which is attached to it. The Hotel is quite large, but there was very little seating in the pub, so after a wait we found a table in the garden, this was at about 7.00p.m. We placed our order as was told it was about a half hour wait, fine, we consumed two rounds of drinks so by 8.00p.m. it was getting pretty cold in the garden we enquired how much longer it was going to be, we where told about 20 minutes but it came out after about 10 minutes, and it was not worth the wait, 2 of us had the sausages and mash, I think the sausages were the only thing which was hot, such small portions I thought it might have been a child. The other 2 meals was called pasta with chicken, it was awful, the spaghetti came out of a tin, not even good quality, with a few pieces of dried up breaded chicken, it never could have taken so long to cook, I think it we had not enquired about the time I think we would still be waiting, Although there is limited seating at this pub not many people were eating and now we know why. (If you are ever hungry have a packed of crisps instead) the place is overpriced and really not worth ever going back.

This hotel is really easy to find and made an excellent first impression with the grounds, facilities and very professional staff on reception. This impression continued throughout our stay with the exception of the fitness facilities. LA Fitness can be used by the hotel guests but it was like a community sports centre, badly needing maintenance and a good clean. The photograph of the pool is deceptively elongated and the sauna and steam room where broom cupboard like. I would be very disappointed to be paying a monthly membership for this gym! Our room was a good size, clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom could do with an update but I was amazed by how quiet the place was, especially in the morning. A good start to our hoilday and great value for £60.

Room Tip: Book away from LA fitness, weird housing there, possbily staff lodgings but a bit tatty and noisier.

We stayed here last July for one night before jetting off to Orlando. This hotel is designed for the car traveller to access Gatwick Airport. We had a one night plus fifteen days parking deal and we felt it was fair value...£90 for a family room for four, plus 15 days secure parking. The location is just one junction south of Gatwick airport and just off the roundabout from the motorway. Very easy to get to and only a 10 minute shuttle bus ride to the airport (the bus isn't free, I think it was four pounds each for the return journey). The hotel itself is situated in quite a secluded leafy area, which was surprisingly tranquil considering the location.

Overall the hotel was aesthetically pleasing around the public areas and had the faux Georgian theme. We used the pool and gym facilities, which were disappointingly tired and half of it out of use at the time (sauna or steam room closed) the gym seemed a little tired. But in all the facility was ok and a little bonus.

Dont expect much eating choice. There are no alternative restaurants within a decent walking distance (which we discovered after a very lengthy walk!!) so we were left with the hotel choice of a basic bar meal which seemed very bad value for money, or the more upmarket restaurant, which was also pricey but seemed better service. Again, not great value for money, but very clean, quite classy and professional service. Expensive though.

The room itself was spacious enough, but again quite tired, well used but clean enough.

In all the place did its job. You are not going here as your main holiday. It's a stopover with parking for the airport. To that end it's fine. I was comfortable with the secure parking facility too and the car was ready for our return without any hassle.

So while I wouldn't rave about the place, I would use it again, but there are other good rivals out there too.

Room Tip: The family room had two single beds and a double. Handy for couples with older kids of both sexes.

We booked a one night Airport stayover with a £90 Room and Breakfast rate. On arrival at this hotel a short bus ride from Gatwick, it looked gorgeous from the outside with lake and quaint old buildings. Inside the reception and dining areas kept the theme going however our room left a lot to be desired. It was small and very outdated with the smallest bathroom at any hotel we have ever stayed at with very thin walls between rooms.Breakfast was buffet style and OK as we had a special room and Breakfast deal but isnt worth the standard charge of £14.99 each. On arrival at the hotel despite reserving the booking on my credit card, they took a £50 deposit which they don't mention anywhere on their website. This seems odd for a hotel that is in effect just an airport hotel where I would have prefereed to have paid on arrival so I could check out quickly the next morning for my my flight. I cleared my account in cash the next morning but on arrival at Gatwick found they had took the balance off my card as well. I had to spend an hour before leaving Gatwick ringing them up speaking to a very unhelpful call centre staff, being put on hold and being passed around before being fobbed off and promised my cash refunded that day for it to be over a week. I would not stay here again! To sum it up, it looks nice outside but at the end of the day compares to a Travelodge style airport hotel.......very pretenious and expensive!

Room Tip: Dine at The Prince Albert Pub a hort drive/walk in the nearby Copthorne Village - good food/ service...

Hotel is 10/15 minutes from the terminals. On arrival it looks like a big sprawling hotel but for our experience it was quite compact - maybe as our room was close to reception. Check in was efficient.
The room sadly is in desperate need of a make over, it was very, very dated. The bathroom was fine and the shower over the bath was powerful. Towels and bedlinen all very clean and the bed comfortable.
We ate in the french restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our food, there was also a good selection of wine and the service was excellent.

Great location- couldnt get much closer to Gatwick. Didn't like having to pay £5 for parking though. Room was clean and a reasonable size. Had a poor nights sleep...the bedroom doors banging all night and a busy front carpark from people coming and going to get flights was unbearable. A good choice of food options- pub grub, gastro or fine dining. we opted for pub but paid £12,50 for a small plate of fish and chips...poor value for money.

Overall, i dont expect much from an airport hotel but this was more expensive than a no frills travelodge and therefore wanted more from my stay.

The Copthorne Gatwick is a modern but traditional, quaint looking Surrey / Kent style hotel.
We paid just over £80.00 for one night’s stay plus 10 nights parking. The nice thing is your car remains on their grounds, not shipped off to some distant car park.

The hotel has a very cosy Reception and a friendly and efficient reception service.
The room we had was large, clean and had a comfy bed. Overall we had a really good night’s sleep.

The bar and restaurants were seriously overpriced so we just went to Tesco (a couple of miles away in Crawley) and bought some food to eat in the room.

We organised a Taxi service to pick us up at 7:30am for Gatwick. It cost 0.50p more than the bus.
The Taxi arrived bang on time so overall no problems.

On our return we did catch the bus as it was outside Gatwick when we arrived and the Copthorne was the first hotel stop so all in all, really good.

Yes the hotel is pretty tired, the back windows need changing and the decoration and carpets in places needs some serious updating. And yes the corridors are a bit dark and smell musty but you don’t sleep in there (hopefully).

However for the price you pay this place is seriously better than a Travel Lodge and better service than Premier Inn and in a great location. For somewhere clean, comfy and quiet to sleep with great service and airport parking at a sensible price this is a great place to use. I would certainly have no hesitation in staying here again.
