I stayed in this hotel for 1 night, I am glad it was one night only. The hotel is actually ok with good facilities. The problem is when you get to the room. Although it was a non smoking room it was obviously once was a smoking a room as it stunk. Once I got past the smell I got into the bathroom. The bathroom had mold on the ceiling and it appeared that it had not been updated for many a year.

Then at 5.30 in the morning I had an early morning call from the bathroom above bathroom with a running tank. The bed was also very soft.

So all in all not a good nights sleep and not what you expect from such a good liooking hotel from the outside.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review on our hotel. We are very sorry you felt disappointed with your overall stay and that our accommodation did not meet your expectations. We were very surprised to read about the smell in your bedroom as all our bedrooms have been non smoking ever since the smoking law came in. It was most unfortunate that you experienced a running tank in the bathroom above. We do hope that after consideration you will consider returning to us in the future.
Best regards

In fairness we only paid £85 for one nights residency and two weeks parking. For this and the location, the hotel is excellent value and we could have done much worse.

The good bits....
- Great price / value
- Good location to airport
- All staff were friendly and helpful
- Choice of three restaurants / bar to eat.

Considerations...
- The room felt tired
- Food and drinks expensive (£35 for two drinks and two small bar meals)
- Not due to the hotel, but the taxi £11 for a single trip was expensive as the hotel is so close to the airport.

I wouldn't want to stay for any longer than one night but would stay again to avoid an early start to the airport and also to get extremely reasonable parking.

We booked the Copthorne, Gatwick because it seemed from their website good quality at a good price for a one night stay + up to eight days parking included for under £80...

All seemed ok from the outside, and got a close to hotel car park space easily. First impressions also upon walking into the hotel were ok and reception appeared friendly and efficient enough.

We were allocated a room on the far side of the hotel, which we thought was quite funny as it was literally miles to walk as if the hotel had been designed to get people used to walking to some of the furthest departure gates at Gatwick itself!

Eventually found our room and upon opening the door were immediately glad that it was only the one night which we were due to spend there! Horrible horrible room with artexed walls (not just ceilings), old fusty carpet, old style bulky television, and associated tired furnishings and air conditioning which when adjusted merely increased the noise of the fan and made no difference whatsoever!

We settled in, and then discovered that there were no towels, so phoned reception to ask for towels along with a wake up call the following day. An hour later and still no towels so phoned housekeeping directly. 15 minutes later an apologetic maid appeared with said towels.

Then decided to use the health facilities which involved a good pre-workout walking to reception to collect some towels to use at the health club. The health club (a branch of LA Fitness) is located at the front of the hotel and involves walking past the hotel pub and some very rundown buildings (which we assume are staff quarters - poor souls!)

We found the health club staff friendly enough upon arrival, so we went off to get changed and use the pool, sauna and steamroom facilities. No complaints about steam room and sauna; both perfectly adequate, clean and functional. The small swimming pool itself was warm and seemed clean enough, the area it is in though was very shabby and needs a lick of paint and sprucing up.

Back at the room we had bought along our own food and drink, which judging by some of the other comments about this hotel saved us a bob or two! We had an early flight the following morning so had one final workout walking to the car in order to get rid of stuff not coming on holiday with us.

Wake-up call did come through on time after an ok nights sleep, bed was very saggy, but comfy enough. Had to fill out small form and handed car keys in at reception before catching 5am shuttle bus. Was told that my car would most probably not be moved!

Upon returning from holiday could see from the shuttle bus window that car was not where it had been left. Went into reception to collect car key (upon presentation of a small ticket which they gave us the week before, which we think is open to security issues, perhaps driving license should also be required?)

Their system looked utterly shambolic and consisted of what appeared to be a very large ice cream / tupperware container with literally bundles and bundles of car keys with paper tags in ( which could so easily be mixed up / become detached). After much grubbing about the young girl eventually found our car key (in a separate ice cream container on its own!)

We were told that the car was still in the bay where it was left, we said that we didn't think it was; but went out to look anyway. Could not find car anywhere in the main car park. Could see that there were also hundreds of cars parked behind the hotel.

Went back to reception exceptionally irate and asked 'where is our car?", was told that manager would sort it out, find car and drive it round to reception for us. Five to ten minutes later a bloke in a white t-shirt and possibly jeans (the hotel manager????) drove the car round to the front. Upon being challenged at their useless service he just walked off!!

Please don't stay at this hotel if you have any sense whatsoever, it will definitely be a disappointing start to your holiday (if you are using it to stay in before you fly), and it will be luck of the draw if you get your car back easily.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review following your recent stay. We are extremely sorry you found your stay so disappointing. May we assure you that all comments made by our guests are treated very seriously indeed and are reviewed by our General Manager and the management team. Owing to the nature of our building, being just ground floor and first floor, inevitably some rooms are a distance from Reception and we apologise for the inconvenience you experienced walking to and fro. More importantly, may we apologise for the delay you experienced when collecting your car. We do have a precise system in place when cars which are moved to our long term car park are brought round to a pick up area the day before the guest is due back from holiday. Unfortunately, when you returned to collect your car a staff member had been absent from work due to illness and we were slightly behind our schedule. However, we are very sorry for the standards of customer service you received, particulary from our Front Office. We do handle hundreds of cars over the summer months and receive very few complaints, once again our apologies. Thank you once again for your constructive comments, we hope you will consider returning to us in the future.
Kind regards

We stayed here through HolidayExtras - 1 night and then 8 nights parking bout £80. Cheap admitedly but we stayed at the Courtyard Marriot last time (soooo much nicer for the same price!).
Our room was on the second floor and there was no lift - so with rather heavy holiday suitcases it was not fun! The room was average - a bit odd to be honest. But seemed clean (we arrived and left in the dark)....
As we had just driven 2/3 hours to get there we decided to eat at the joining pub (The White Swan) - it was v expensive (drinks esp - I lived in London for 4 years so used to high prices but this was more than that) - my steak and ale pie was luke warm and v salty! The choice of food was also v limited.
The hotel was quiet enough to get some sleep before the early flight - which was the main thing.
The thing that really got me was that when we returned to the hotel to collect the car you get told to go left through the hotel car park and into the field - and they are not joking! With heavy suitcases after a long day travelling the last thing you want to do is lugg all of your stuff through 2 car parks and then into a field full of cars with no idea where yours is (we were lucky - there was a guy coming out who told us were all the departure cars were)! Also our car was not locked - I am sure it had only been moved the night before or something but still I dont think that is acceptable.
Oh and one last compliant (I know I am going on) - the bus to the airport is every hour starting at 5am - so didnt suit us at all - also every hour seems infrequent to me, with 2 travellers it was only £3 cheaper in total than a taxi - I'll let you guess which one we took!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review on our hotel. Although as we understand you found your accommodation satisfactory, you were dissatisfied with your meal and the parking arrangements. Firstly, may we apologise for your disappointing meal in the White Swan Pub. We have passed your comments on to our chef, it is a shame as normally the steak and ale pie is one of our most popular dishes. Regarding your return from holiday and the collection of your car, we do park cars in our long term car park at the rear of the hotel. The cars are then brought round by our car parking attendants to a pick up area. I am very sorry you had to go and find your car in the long term car park. I have asked our Car Park Manager to explain how this could have happened. With regard to our shuttle bus and transport to the airport, we found that when we operated a more regular service so many buses were running with no passengers so we reverted to an hourly service which generally suits most people. We have also negotiated a very good price with a local taxi company therefore giving our guests the choice. When there are two or more travellers they may certainly select a taxi rather than the bus as this is more economical. I hope I have answered your questions and hope that we may look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.
Kind regards

Were told to check in after 2pm, Got there at 3pm and no family rooms available; went to have lunch and got back at 4:30pm. Still no Family Rooms available and we were given a story about "we say arrive after 2pm but don't guarantee the rooms will be available" The staff were helpful in getting us a room fixed up but only after we'd complained; they also expressed a certain impatience with our questioning this policy.

Not a pleasant experience and everything else about the place is mediocre: avoid if you can.

The swimming pool is a rather unclean little pool in the nearby LA Fitness, don't expect a great workout.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our hotel following your recent stay. We are very sorry you had to wait for your room which should have been available at 2.00 p.m. Although the summer is a busy time for us for family rooms this is no excuse for you and your family to have waited so long, please accept our apologies. The level of customer service you experienced at our Front Office has been discussed with our Front Office Manager. We have also passed your comments on to the Manager of L A Fitness who provide our Health and Fitness Club. We are very sorry you felt disappointed with your stay and hope that you will reconsider and return to us in the future.
Yours sincerely,

My husband and I were booked on a flight to America and decided to stop at the Copthorne the night before. The holiday was our honeymoon and we wanted it to start on a high and it did. On arrival at check in we met Donna who was excellent. She was chatty, friendly and incredibly helpful.

Once checked in we went to the room which was very nice. We also ate in the pub attached to the hotel and found the meal to be reasonable priced and tasty. The hotel is also perfectly located for Gatwick airport and transfers where quick and easy.

Overall an excellent start to our honeymoon,
