The apartments are comfortable and attractive. Ours (Cielo) was designed to capture the early summer sun in the upstairs bedrooms. The living room had a small balcony that just fitted two people. The pool was an attractive extra during our stay in June. The common room was a bit of a dungeon - dark and cold, but might well present differently in colder times. I liked the way the buildings had been restored to fit the image of the village and the owner's neighbouring bar. The village is very small with no facilities other than the bar - this is OK if you know in advance and bring your own supplies. We found Tudes a great base for daily walks in the Picos - we stayed for 2 weeks and still had unfinished excursions. For days when driving wasn't attractive, there were good walks around the village and Tony has some good notes on this.

Room Tip: pick a room with big windows towards the peaks

I can only echo the positive reviews of the other travelers. We spent 4 nights here this April and it was superb. The quality of the accommodation was very high, we especially enjoyed the quirky "medieaval" wall paintings. The wood burner was welcome too at night. Unfortunately Lucia was ill but Tony was very helpful, he even opened the bar they own across the road so we could have a drink. This is a very well run, and very comfortable property in a superb location. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: Juegos has incredible views across the valley towards the mountains.

Just to add to previous reviews that even if you are not really looking for family self-catering, this place doubles very effectively - on a per night basis - as very pleasant 'suite' accommodation. Very stylish architecturally and in terms of design, and well equipped for breakfast or quick evening meals (as others have said, there isn't much else in the visit). There is a DVD library, games and common rooms, pool etc - lot's to while away some lazy afternoons. Our stay wasn't quite as quiet as some of the others - some irritating village dogs! - but the views of the mountains and other treats easily made up for this.

Room Tip: Make sure to get an apartment with mountain view

I agree with everything everyone has said about this place. It is gorgeous. The apartment was really comfy and well equipped (No 1) with a delightful seating area outside to enjoy the sunshine and a stones throw from the pool. We were so lucky with the weather and had glorious walks to match. Only the last couple of days were damp.
Thank you so much Tony and family, I hope we'll be back. Sleep quality only marred by the bird scarers so take ear plugs if you're worried - don't worry they don't go on all year and you get used to them.

My wife and I stayed here for two weeks in late July/early August 2011. I'm writing this review whist sitting in the communal space at La Casa de las Chimeneas.

I simply cannot think of a single thing I would change about my stay, or the enquiry/booking process. Tony and Lucia have built a superb business through attention to detail and the warmth of their personalities. The accommodation is first rate, we stayed in a double bedded apartment "Juevos", with everything you need in it, washing machine, dishwasher, oven, microwave, TV, DVD, 10m from the pool, and every morning we woke up to the simply stunning views of the Picos. I could live here! Just lovely.

Tudes is a small, quiet village, except on fiesta night which only happens once a year, and here you are guaranteed some of the best night's sleep you will ever have. We had a long spectacular thunderstorm one night which was worth getting up to watch.
You can then set about exploring the region refreshed each day on traffic free roads, or on foot, or by bike if you are feeling very fit. Potes, the nearest town,10 mins away by car, has everything you need in terms of supermarkets and restaurants and shops and banks/post office, etc...

We stayed at Casa de las Chimeneas for three nights at the end of May and loved it. We are a family of six and rented the apartment across the road from the main complex. Everything about the apartment and Tudes was absolutely delightful--the views, the accomodation, the hikes. The drive up after you get off the autovia can be hair-raising for North American drivers but it's worth it for the beauty and serenity of Tudes. Tony and his wife were helpful, welcoming hosts. Tony even opened up the taberna one morning so my dad could get a coffee! Note: there are no other businesses in Tudes. You can get tapas at the taberna but it's not really a restaurant and there are no grocery stores in Tudes. However, Potes is a short drive away and all your supplies can be purchased there. There are also some excellent restaurants in Potes.

We were a family group of 6 that stayed here for only 3 nights - I wish we could have stayed longer.

We got the three bedroom unit, which also has a full kitchen and a washing machine!
It was wonderful.

The little town of Tudes was celebrating a "twinning ceremony" with a nearby town, so when we arrived, there was a street party going on with singing and dancing. How cool is that?

The town of Tudes itself is just a 10-minute drive from Potes, which is a larger town where you can buy groceries and pretty much anything else you'd need. There are also a number of restaurants, bars and outdoor outfitters. When we were there, Potes also had a farmer's market, which was great to poke around in.

From Potes, you drive out of town and then up a switchback road to Tudes.

The owners of this casa completely renovated the property that they bought so that there are a number of different bedrooms/suites, a small swimming pool, a common outdoor sitting area, a common indoor sitting room with a pool table and a computer for client use that has an internet connection. Check out more pictures on their website.

In their redesign of the property, the owners cleverly arranged most of the bedrooms to have a view of the splendid mountains that are across the valley floor from Tudes.

Across the road, part of the same property, the owners have a bar/restaurant. If you don't cook in your own unit, this is the only option you have for food, unless you go into Potes or another nearby town.

The town of Tudes and the property itself are charming.

This is a good base for exploring the Picos. The funicular at Fuente De is close by, as well as a variety of other hiking trails. There is so much to do, we encountered another couple staying at the property who were there for 2 weeks, and they had done the same last year!

There is a little abandoned village that you can access by hiking about 20 minutes and one day we simply hiked into Potes, drank cider to revive ourselves and took a taxi back!
The unit itself was super, well equipped and comfortable.

At night, when all is quiet, the only thing you can hear is the clinking of cow bells. You sit outside, breathe in the clean air and fall in love with the countryside. It was a little slice of heaven.

Room Tip: They all seem good
