“Fantastic family holiday!”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

We have recently returned from a week's all inclusive at the Buena Vista and I have nothing but positive things to say about it. We are a family of 5 (children aged 6, 10 and13) and this resort suited us all. Playa Paraiso is a quiet resort and so if you're looking for karaoke bars and English pubs, it probably isn't the place for you. The rooms were spotless and cleaned every day. The pools were fantastic and safe and the daily run pool activities were low key and fun if you wanted to join in. The food was great - loads of choice to suit everyone and always freshly prepared. The evening entertainment is provided by the in-house entertainment team who work incredibley hard and provide fun family shows - again if you expecting West End shows this might not be the place for you. However, the highlight of our holiday was most definitely the staff at the hotel and the high quality of service they provide. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone was always friendly and happy to help. Overall a fantastic family holiday which I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a laid back and relaxing holiday.

Two mothers on a holiday with our teenage girls, we had a fantastic family room each in Block C overlooking the pool, very spacious and kept lovely and clean every day. Food fantastic and so much choice, also a great variety of drinks on offer. Staff very friendly and helpful. Resort is big and spacious, you do have to get up by 7:30 am to get a sunbed but surprised for peak time in August, and at times felt like a car park, but everything is manageable and if you time it right, no queues, which I expected. Family hotel or for older couples. The only thing that lets this hotel down is the awful evening entertainment.

Room Tip: C Block gets the sun in August in the afternoon but really hot on the balcony if you want to sit on...

We stayed here for a week in April. And all though the weather wasn't cracking the hotel definitely made up fot it. The hotel was very nice and well decorated. The rooms were very spacious and were lucky enough to have a lovely view from our balcony. The food and drinks were both very good and had a large variety. And the service was impeccable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to couples or families

This is a very well efficiently run hotel. beautiful room on 7th floor, tip pay the extra for sea view well worth the extra. The food was good, really good choice and clean restaurant.Got a bit busy at times but what do you expect in the peak season. The Riu entertainments team were very very good. The bedrooms are very clean and comfortable.Good choice of All Inclusive drinks. The hotel isn't in a resort centre but they do offer courtesy bus which you need to book. We went to the A La carte Italian restaurant but it wasn't any better than the main buffet restaurant. To get a decent sunbed the usual silliness started at 8am, we went down after 9am and we got some but they were further back from the pool. The hotel is lovely and the sea views are great. Would go back

Room Tip: pay for a sea view

Me (18) and my boyfriend (20) went to Riu Buena Vista for 11 nights in July, first of all, after arriving a day late due to flight delay, the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful in getting us checked in. We were told to put our luggage into a hold room and go to the main restaurant and get something to eat then come back to sort out rooms. We were given a room 'upgrade' which was free of charge, with a lovely view of the sea although the room itself was a bit down dated and in need of updating (wall paper coming off walls, furniture falling apart) but were very spacious and clean. The food is very European, with veal on the menu lunch and dinner every day but there was a wide variety of choice; salads, meats, pastas, pizza etc but being a fussy eater i struggled to find something to eat that wasn't pizza and chips. There is another restaurant 'tamatico' which specialises in Italian and Canarian food, you have to make a reservation with reception but it's free so its worth a try. The pools are large and kept reasonably clean, with the pool bar a short walk from the bottom pool. The top pool is an infinity pool and the bottom one is surrounded by clear plastic so you can look out into the sea, and what a lovely view it was. The pool bar itself had soft drinks towers so you could get your own soft drinks, beer and wine. There was cocktails; alcoholic and non alcoholic available from the poor bar and also milkshakes for children, You got free towels which you could get changed every day, all you had to do was give them your towel cards that you received on check in.There were lots of sunbeds dotted around the pools but you may struggle to get one if you didn't get up early and reserve. The entertainment during the day was good, with different activities to do like air gun shooting, water polo, tennis, football etc but on a night there wasn't much to do, kids had a night time show but after that there was very little entertainment, a singer on stage for an hour or so, not ideal for people our age but others would enjoy. I'd say the hotel was more for people over 30 years old and also families. Location wise it is slightly out of the way but it is quiet which is always a bonus, but there is a free bus to Playa De Las Americas which is only a 15 minute drive away, We went to Siam Water Park which is one of the best in Europe and is worth a visit, it does get very busy because its widely known to be one of the best but once you're in, the queues aren't too bad. NOTE: Don't get tricked by people around the town telling you to buy tickets from them because you'll have to queue for half an hour to get in - LIES, the queue was bigger for people who had tickets than the one for people buying them. Las Americas has a nice big stretch of beach and lots of shops, bars and restaurants to visit and also an opportunity to do some water sports. Watch out for the people trying to sell you sunglasses/watches off the street claiming they're designer- they're clearly not! Overall, the hotel was very good, the staff couldn't do any more for you, they were always willing to help! It is busy but i guess that just proves its a popular hotel, and the views and weather were gorgeous. Ideal hotel for a relaxing break away.

Room Tip: Its worth the money to pay for a sea view room.

This was an attractive hotel which the rest of the family including teenagers thought was fantastic. It was certainly quite spacious, with good couple of swimming pools having plenty of space around for the loungers. Didn’t really need to get down early to book a lounger and space. Towels are available. The reception area was very pleasant with quite good shops located there. The rooms were allocated were the best we had had with large outer room and an inner bedroom with ensuite. There was also a wc/washbasin in another small room off the outer living room. There was a fridge and safe which, unusually, one didn’t have to pay for. The food was extremely good with a good selection. Buffet service of course. The waiters as usual were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was large and pleasant. There was an alternative restaurant for you had to book. This was close to the sea with a good view out. The all inclusive drinks facility was good with convenient quick service. Wine and beer were also on tap and there were good hot drinks machines. Bottles of water were provided free of charge. The beach area was quite good at the top of an inlet to the side of the hotel. The sand was grey-yellow. There wasn’t however any shaded places down there or facilities/seats. It was good for snorkelling though. However what about the down side. The surround area/town was not interesting and didn’t justify a walk out. We didn’t go on an excursion so cannot comment on these. The resort was therefore a bit remote although they did run 3 shuttle-bus’s a day to Las Americas. There were sports facilities were quite good but the gym was poor, no rowing machines, cycling or walking machines. They will probably sort this out in the future. I’m not sure whether the evening entertainment was very good but didn’t attend much so can’t be sure. There were pool tables but these were tucked away. One had insert euro’s for a game on these. So in essence, it was really good for families with children although there were many young couples.

Room Tip: Room at front had reasonable view facing inland but possibly better to the rear facing out to sea ov...

If only travellers did their research before booking they would have known this hotel is in the middle of nowhere!! The other comments are indeed correct with regards to location however we knew this prior to booking and it suited us. If you want bars, pubs, restaurants etc, don't stay here and probably book half board. On a more positive note, we had a lovely time. Our room was large, had two toilets and ample room, we were two adults and a 6 year old child. It was very clean and had an amazing view right across to La Gomera. The balcony was very spacious, had table chairs and a sunbed. We found the food to be very good, it caters for everything from pizza and chip diets, vegetarian and healthly eating. As with most AI holidays, the dining experience can be rather busy, noisy and have queues. We avoided this and opted to sit in the outside part of the restaurant for all meals. The entertainment is very average but if you have young children, you soon grow fond of the Animation Team and the shows don't then seem too bad. As with all hotels, the towel business is a problem. We set our alarm every morning at 8am and laid the towles out. I've yet to find a hotel that doesn't have this problem and it's a case of "if you can't beat em, join em" !!! It is very annoying but like I say, it seems to be every hotel theses days. We only paid £500 per head, had glorious weather and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool/sea view. Failing that you get banana plantation which is fine but not nearly as plea...
