“Fantastic week”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

Stayed here for a week beginning of June with my friend . Read the reviews after booking this hotel & I must admit I was starting to get a little worried before we left . No need ....... it was brilliant . The easiest check in at the hotel I've ever experienced , leave ur baggage in the holdall , go get a drink & something to eat while the reception staff sort ur paperwork out ..... brilliant . Room was spacious & very clean . Have no idea why people need to complain about the room , we slept well every night & didn't come on holiday to sit in our rooms & watch TV , so the size of the TV wasn't an issue . Rooms were cleaned daily & clean towels if u wanted . The safe in ur room was free , made a nice change . U get free bottles of water from reception to keep in the fridge in ur room , again a nice touch . The food was of a good quality , always fresh salads & fruit . Yes it was a bit samey every day but there was always different fish or meat dishes . The entertainments team were excellent , very friendly , not pushy at all if u didn't want to join in . But if u did they were ur new friends for the week . The only criticism of this hotel was the evening entertainment ...... omg thank god we were all inclusive because they drove us to drink !! We would have liked party music , karaoke , fun entertainment to get the guests involved . The entertainment in the other bar wasn't much better , the only good nights were when the entertainments team put on a show . Never had a problem getting a sunbed , top tip u can reserve sunbeds before 8am if u stay there on the bed , if u leave the security guard will swipe ur towels away . If u need a parasol or a bed if u come down later in the day just ask the lifeguard , he always seemed willing to help . The best thing about this hotel was the staff . I've never been to a hotel where all the staff greeted you and were attentive & friendly & helpful . They all spoke excellent English & never had any problems communicating with anybody . Plus they were all sooo good looking so u always had something nice to look at ;) The location was fine for us , quiet , but that's what we like . Didn't have a problem getting a seat on the free shuttle bus . If ur looking for a mainly English clientele don't come here .There were a lot of other nationalities especially Spanish , but we didn't feel intimidated or side-lined by any of the staff . It is a big hotel , bigger than what we would have wanted but that's a preferential choice . So on the whole it was fantastic & if the evening entertainment was better then I would have given it an excellent rating . would definitely recommend & would definitely go again . This is no reflection on the hotel but with Thomson ...... no rep on the transfer buses , no welcome package when we arrived in the hotel room , no wandering around the hotel to see if we were all ok , in fact we never saw her . As far as Thomson goes this was the worst rep service I've experienced , but don't let that stop u .

Great week spent at this hotel, overall hotel was excellent , staff very helpful and friendly , good variety of food ,the little restaurant down by the second pool overlooking the sea made a pleasant change and didn't get as busy. Beginning of the week was fairly quiet so got good choice of sun beds etc, our room was very spacious and clean , towels changed daily. The worst thing about my stay here was the entertainment , daily activities were varied but night time was dire , I felt we had to make the most of the alcohol to get us through it , ok if you were of a certain age and wanted to wind down , after relaxing all day by pool wanted a little more excitement at night, speaking to some of the other guests this was general gripe with all , hope they address this as it defiantly wasca dreary end to a good day . Plus side to the hotel staff very attentive and easy on the eye ;).

before going on my holiday to the riu buena vista i read many reviews, "poor riu standard" "no one speaks english" - IGNORE. all staff i spoke to spoke fantastic english!!! as its the first Riu hotel i've ever stayed at, it may well be of a lower standard to other Riu hotels - i don't really know- but this one was pretty damn good.

my boyfriend and i stayed here for a week. wish we'd booked 10 days!!!

slushy cocktails - ok, not a proper cocktail but they tasted nice!
Amstel beer on tap - premium beer, can't complain!
food - repetitive, but still i good variety, lots of salad, rice dishes (paella one day, rice with vegetables the next, rice with meat the day after that etc) good range of freshly grilled meat on offer, veal was very good, fish also nice!
massive queue for the chips - heaven forbid anyone to try food they're not familiar with... !!!
freshly made pizza everyday, themed restaurant did italian most days, but as main restaurant did pizza and pasta everyday this was too similar to food on offer in the main restaurant so only went there once!
staff were extremely helpful, they never stop greeting you and seeing if you have what you need, offering you water or asking if you'd rather have a different drink.
when you'd finished with a plate, POOF, it was gone.
quick and efficient bar service, prosecco served throughout the day - pretty fantastic if you ask me.
local spirits weren't too bad either, first AI i've been to where they've served alcohol such as baileys and straight whiskey in brandy glasses. nice touch! drinks never served in flimsy plastic cups either, all cups were sturdy which was nice when drinking around the pool!

pool area very clean, there were a lot of flies though for some reason? which got a little annoying when trying to sunbathe! as for the sun bed 'war' - THERE WAS NO SUCH THING. As the hotel got busier through the week more beds were provided and if you needed a parasol - JUST ASK!!!! they'll give you one! there is a heated pool, and the other pool was an infinity pool at one end, which looks rather nice in pictures! pools were nice and big too, so you were never having to dodge people and if you wanted to properly swim you could!
entertainment staff were always coming around and shouting 'water polo' 'zumba' or whatever and when you said no they were a bit irritating and made you feel like you should take part but i'm on holiday to relax, thank you!
the only irritating thing is people reserving sun beds all day and you don't see them. once. grr.

evening entertainment needs to be signposted a bit better! it wasn't until the 5th night of our holiday we actually discovered that there was a comedy lounge! we still stayed at the bar under the reception where there was a different singer every night. they were all good as well! nice area for playing card games etc, which is what we did!

Julianne on reception - absolutely wonderful, she's a credit to the hotel, best welcome i've ever had arriving on holiday!

reviews concerning 'three star rooms' - really??
the room we had was a family room and it was absolutely massive. air con, safe which is included as standard no irritating extra costs. sun bed on the balcony, and table and chairs - perfect. bathroom was huge, separate bath and shower and two toilets, one located in separate room and one in the bathroom itself.
yes, the bed was two singles pushed together, this happens a lot in hotels these days so don't understand why people have to moan about it in reviews? beds were nice and comfortable too, had a good nights sleep every night!

there was a shuttle bus to las americas which was great but only go if you really want to, shortest time you can stay is three hours as there are only certain times that the buses run, but definitely go if you want the use of a bigger beach as the one by the hotel is man made i think so more cove like than actual beach!

all in all, it was an absolutely fabulous week! only thing i can moan about, which isn't a bad reflection on the hotel is its customers. ruuuuuude people. there is a rather large amount of different nationalities choosing to holiday here, so if you're a brit after a holiday where you're surrounded by brits, don't come here! - you're in the minority, definitely!
people were rude at dinner, if you needed to squeeze in the queue just to grab a plate, you'd get stared at like you'd just tried to assault them, yet they'd gladly push past you to get to the food they wanted. double standards! ahh well, if you can't beat em then join em and thats what we did!

i would absolutely come here again, not too many children running riot, you either saw older couples, families with teenagers, not many young couples such as myself and my boyfriend but we didn't feel out of place, it was the perfect relaxing week!

Room Tip: we were in block A level 6 which was at the top, not once were we disturbed so i'd suggest a hig...

Spent 2 wks here in may, the staff were wonderful, couldn't do enough for us, my kids luved the waiters and the entertainment staff who were very funny. The rooms were spacious and clean, Pools were cold but it was nice in the hot weather, food nice n plenty of variety, entertainment not the best but ok. The thing that put a dampener on our 2 wks were the amount of spanish desending on the hotel from friday till sunday, completely overtook the pool area, bar n restraunt and seemed like they got priority service over everyone else. All in all a good hotel but probably wouldn't return

This hotel is by far the biggest we've stayed in. Lovely place, very clean, lots of space. All the staff are brilliant and friendly. Food was very nice and something for everyone no matter how fussy. Evening shows were good but you need to get in early to get a good seat. The range and flavour of the cocktails are yummy. The pools are awesome and the views of the pool and sea were great. Bedrooms are nice and spacious, very clean and comfortable.

Took the free bus into las americas and back. Nice beach, usual holiday shops, locals are friendly. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Got back on 3rd June from a week here with Thompson with a friend and 2 daughters age 3 & 9. Pools are beautiful all 3 of them, pool for babies is nice with a cover and slide and ideal for toddlers.
View is pretty and a nice bay next to the hotel. Food is good quality but the same EVERY night with no exception.
Drinks all free AI and even Prosecco which was a nice touch for us girlies.
No snacksbar to take food out to the pool and no ice cream of lollies for the kids which was a shame.
No bottled water in the bars or resturante only in receiption for your room which was the big downside as we had to drink pop all week.

Staff generally helpful but some a little rude on reception. $50 to keep your room but for a late flight was deffo worth it as no shower room.

Bad points:-
Thompson reps - Diabolical, never there and even the booklets are in foreign no English at all.
No rep on the coach to the hotel and no rep presence by the pool or anywhere else for that matter.
Ruiland Kids club only from age 4, no little ones allowed.
Mini disco which is the reason I used to book Thompson holiday was utterly rubbish. Not one song or game or dance was English spoken.
The whole hotel was full of German, Russion,Polish and the Hotels management clearly catered for this and not English. In fact most of the staff spoke every language BUT English which was strange considering its their 2nd language in spain.

Big sunbed war everymorning so beware, dont put your towels out before 8am as secuirty will swipe them off.

All in all you wont be dissapointed but there is nothing to do for kids over 8 as its pretty boring but relaxing.

Room Tip: Family Room is amazing, really hugh with sunbeds on the huge balcony. 2 rooms 2 bathrooms and full s...

Lovely looking hotel from the outside but most definitely not up with the normal RIU standards. Great if you want to watch little brats running around with parents just watching. Restaurant always very full and again more like a 3 star in benidorm that a RIU with regards to food choices and layout. Rooms very basic but clean again I would say 3 star. Noisy at night but again due to little brats running up and down the corridor I dare say with the parents not knowing where they are, even my 2 kids complained! If you like Butlins then you would love this place. Nth and god we hired a car and could escape

Room Tip: As for a quiet room if one exists
