Solitaire is a quirky little rest stop, actually quite pretty, if a little "staged". We were sad to find that Moose was no longer with us, but honoured to try the famous apple pie. It took two of us to finish one piece, which was every bit as good as we'd heard. The big jam filled shortcake biscuits were pretty amazing, too. We took some with us for our onward drive.

A place you don't want to miss. A highlight in Namibia. At that time the legendary Moose still baked the apple cake. The original recipe goes back to Hans van der Lee, who wrote a book on Solitaire.

It is the best apple pie in the world! (especially with it's remote place)
A lot of bake goods, drinks, happy people.
There is also a gas station, small shop and info wall with maps and brochures and a souvenir shop.
You can also stay in the lodge (didn't try it)
Even saw a small airplane land just to buy some cakes!

LOVED IT!

Sadly, Moose has passed away about a month ago, but i'm sure his family and friend are keeping this place on track.

Miles and miles of almost nothing then suddenly you come across this collection of buildings - a cafe, a restaurant, a general store and a garage. Then, if you are a cake lover, you find that it serves an amazing selection of cakes and pies.

Also known as Moose McGregor's Desert Bakery, rather sadly he had recently died and his grave adds to the quirkiness of the place. However, his secrets appear to have lived on and we enjoyed an excellent sweet snack. It is definitely worth a stop if you are passing. There is a separate restaurant, which we did not use.

The place is also worth visiting for the manner in which they have artistically incorporated old car skeletons into the surroundings and for viewing the antics of birds, ground squirrels and mongoose that inhabit the place.

For less than a one horse town this bakery would not be out of place in the capital city of Windhoek. The owner could be a character out of a movie and his apple pie is too die for
