“NIce Stop”

Our guide/driver took us here. Very quiet and not very touristy. Good history and information. Glad we saw it and climbed up.

“Off the beaten path”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

The church is really cool! The hike up to the top is not too bad (we didn't make it all the way because we couldn't figure out how to navigate through the maze of rooms). The walk through the tiny town won't affect you much but there are some cafes if you'd like to stop for a drink.

“No paintings but still obviously a church”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013

There are a few rooms and even without paintings it's obvious it was a church due to the carved pillars. A guide can really make it come alive

“BREATHTAKING”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

From a distance there is a ruined hill but what? Wind in through the new Cavusin and there is the remains of the old village, apparently demolished in the 60s by an earthquake (no verification) and at the very top the Church of St John the Baptist, only signed as Church, which is supposed to be one of the oldest churches from 4th 5th century? Some of the walking is not good and fairly steep/high. Inside there are still columns and some paintings (Salome dancing is fairly clear) and it must have been quite large. Views out are amazing. Well worth the climb. Atmospheric
