Chez Bear Ski Lodge
Ranked #4 of 11 Briancon B&B and Inns
Reviewed 3 June 2014

This was our second visit to Chez Bear and, again, we have no hesitation in recommending the place to others. The lodge itself is really nice; especially the interior which has wow-factor. The real magic though is delivered by Helen and Mike. Both are genuinely nice people; Helen is super-skilled in the kitchen, and Mike does an excellent job of looking after guests in a 'nothing is too much trouble' way.
Chatting with other guests over dinner and breakfasts adds further interest and enjoyment to what is already a great experience.
On our 7-day tour of the region Chez Bear provided the best food (preparation and quality of ingredients) for both breakfast and dinner - and Mike makes a good coffee too with his machine!
Though British, Mike & Helen are fluent in French (and I think Helen speaks Italian too), so this is a truly international destination. Highly recommended.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review here on TA and of course for choosing Chez Bear again during your visit to the Alps.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay, the quality of the produce and the services offered. We couldn't wish for a more flattering review of Chez Bear and your compliments with regard to Helen & I are very kind indeed.

It was our please to be your hosts during your short stay, thank you once again and we hope to see you again in Briançon in the future.

Warm regards,

Michael & Helen

Amazing chalet! Amazing hosts! Unbelievable food!
Our group had an amazing week at Chez Bear; lived up to & beyond all expectations.
Mike was a brilliant host, running the front of house, serving the food & drinks etc & keeping us entertained with his fantastic banter. While Helen made the most wonderful dishes of food (& the amazing cakes for après ski). There was something amazing for everyone, & the kids were spoilt rotten with their food too, loving especially pizza night, with the pizza, Nutella & whipped cream dessert! Nothing was too much trouble (whether we needed shopping stops for pole extensions for the go pro from the local shops or swimwear, or food stops etc).
Cinema, wii & sauna were well used, rooms were lovely & clean & tidied each day.
I could go on forever about how amazing these 2 people were. They made our holiday & we wish them all the best for their upcoming arrival. Till next time...

I couldn't recommend this place enough. My usual concern for a holiday, being a vegetarian, is the food. But Helen coooked some lovely food and catered to my needs having advised my dietary requirement in advance. The Chalet itself was very homely and Mike and Helen were great hosts, making us feel extremely welcome. Thanks for a great holiday!

Just returned from our second stay at Chez Bear and once again we couldn't fault it. Incredible chalet with perfect hosts, amazing food and brilliant skiing. Nothing is too much for Helen and Mike and we felt thoroughly spoilt and relaxed after a hard days skiing - cannot wait to go back again next year!

This was arguably the best chalet we have ever stayed in. The property, the food, the facilities, and the views from the property were all beyond the most superlative of reviews, many of the hours on the journey home were spent discussing the best menu of the week, or the best bit, or which movie was best in the cinema room. However all of these were superseded by the quality of the service provided by Mike and Helen. Nothing, and I mean nothing, was too much trouble for them. They had an option for everything, they made us laugh until we cried, they supported us when our son had a ski accident and needed a doctor, they played with the kids (who were calling them aunt and uncle by the end of the week) and were the liveliest hosts I've met.

Don't be put off that it's a few minutes from the slopes...it's a few more minutes to be regaled by Mike's tales or talk of the day's adventures...or if you are put off it's ok...more chance for us to rebook!!!!

Rarely felt sadder to leave anywhere..... Kris and Bev Hampson

We really enjoyed are stay at Chez Bear. Very comfortable and homey. Mike and Helen did a wonderful job taking care of everyone. Mike ensured our wine glasses were filled including running down to the theatre room on the bottom floor to refresh our drinks. Helen is a fantastic cook and I only wish they owned a restaurant in Harrogate. Mike also kept busy driving us to/from the slopes and into town for sightseeing. It was great not having to carry skies any long distance as he brought us right to the lifts. Fantastic!

I don’t feel it to be an exaggeration to say that the week spent staying at Chez Bear was the best ski/snowboard holiday I’ve ever had. You’d be hard pressed to find fault with the place and for me it was great value for money considering the high quality of the accommodation, amazing food, plentiful beer and array of amenities on offer (sauna/cinema screen/satellite TV/pool table etc.). I was worried about having to be shuttled back and forth to the slopes each day but needn’t have been; the transport situation worked well and in fact provided more choice of start/end points. We took a party of 10 people and it didn’t feel in any way cramped… it’s the perfect size for a group of 10-12. I absolutely loved Chez Bear and would love to return in the future. I know I speak for the whole group when I say thank you to Mike and Helen for all they did to make our stay so wonderful.

(In a way I am loathed to write such a glowing report as it will make it harder to book Chez Bear in the future! However, they fully deserve the praise.)

Room Tip: There are 5 rooms, 4 on the top floor and one on a lower floor. All are nice. 2 rooms upstairs look...
