If you would like to go trekking in the Simien mountains and need a fantastic guide, look no further! Eshete Berju can take you to whereever you want. He is a very knowledgeable guide and is willing to go the extra mile. I have travelled quite a lot, but have rarely seen such a good guide as he is. Friendly, funny and very helpfull. You can find him at simientravel.com
He will arrange everything you need for a very sharp price! Have fun in the incredible mountains. It just might be one of the best treks you have ever done

This park has many different grades for hiking from half a day to several days. It is also a great place to see and photograph the baboons who seem entirely indifferent to visitors amongst them. If you are lucky you may see some of the other wildlife and birds that make their homes in the park.

Simon Assefa is very passionate about what he does - you can tell that he really does have over 5 years of experience providing guided trekking experience with his vast knowledge of the Simiens and his warm personality. He arranged everything from flights, hotels, restaurants and the actual trek with very detailed descriptions of each day so that we knew what to expect! The 8-day trek that we had was amazing with all of the beautiful sceneries and local culture. When Simon explained everything, it was as if we were talking to a friend and not being feed facts or opinions from a textbook. We found Simon through his website and Facebook page called Simien Mountains Trekking. Definitely book your trek with Simon - you won't regret it!

Because we didn't have a lot of time anymore to hike the Simiens, we only did a trek for two days, one night. We heard about Dezy through a friend of ours, so we booked it with his company. The trip turned out to be great! We had a very nice and English speaking guide and the food was one of the best we had in Ethiopia, so we can defenitely recommend a trip with Dezy! We have seen a lot of gelada baboons and even the rare Ethiopian bushbuck!

I may work in cities but I need to trek in the outdoors to recuperate from the stress of city life. The Simien Mountains are pretty breathtaking but be warned that you do need to be in moderate shape to hike comfortably at this altitude. There were breathtaking mountains seen during every hike and amazing wildlife to those that are patient enough to appreciate the great planet we live on. I read some bad reviews but honestly those were people that may have attempted to arrange tours on their own - being a backpacker it is more worthwhile to pay through a tour operator that you can find value when you have more people to share the costs of the guide, scout and cooks.
- Bring a good waterproof jacket and sturdy hiking shoes because you never know what the weather may be like.
- A good camera with good optical zoom will provide the best images of scenery and the jittery wildlife (Simien Wolf and Walia Ibex).
- Lastly, don't take my word for it - check it out yourself and write your own TripAdvisor review if you disagree!
