“Excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014

Two of us shared a Somerset Platter at lunch time - ab fab beef, ham, cheese, brawn, pickles, bread etc etc. Another diner had a delicious steak - cooked to perfection. The décor is charming and the staff friendly and efficient, What more can you ask.

“Good food - very popular”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014

We had a nice dinner at the George Inn. Food was good but felt similar to some of the big pub chains. Service was good until it started to get very busy. I had to ask four times for the bill but this is my only complaint and didn't spoil an otherwise enjoyable eveing. Clearly this is a popular place to eat in the area as it was very busy by the time we left.

“Lunch at the George!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014 via mobile

Love the food, the atmosphere and staff are very good. Would definitely recommend. Have had quite a few meals here and I am never disappointed, the fish pie was quite delicious, shame I live in frome because I bet the rooms are lovely.

“Interesting modernised traditional pub, food average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

Came across The George by accident, it is opposite a fascinating ruined castle. Decided to have lunch facing the castle unfortunately a huge delivery wagon parked in front of the window for most the duration!
The pub is a quality period building and there are quirky modern additions such as lamps fashioned from driftwood and cow print cushions. The serving staff were very friendly.
Wood fired pizzas and rotisserie chicken were promoted as specialities. I had King Prawn Linguine which was quite tasty, there was a good quantity of king prawns although I did not like the fatty chorizo style sausage in it. My husband had gammon, egg and chips and when he remarked on paying that the chips seemed frozen although hand cut chips were elsewhere on the menu he was told all the chips were hand cut but it depended on the size of the chipper!!!

“Average food, expensive garlic bread”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

The food was average, small portions, normal prices. But If you like to pay 7£ for a slice of garlic toast, it's the best inn that you can find.

Thank you for your review. However we feel it is a tad unfair as you implied we gave 1 slice of garlic bread for £6.50, Our Artisan garlic bread sharing plate is a whole 9" Italian rustic ciabatta sliced and smothered with seasoned garlic butter & parsley and then topped with Somerset Brie and fired in our oven, making a delicious platter for two to share. It is one of our most popular dishes and we have only ever had feedback that it was too much and they wanted to leave room for their main courses.

Certainly one to try if you visit, it really is delicious.
