“Lunch at a price”
Reviewed 9 July 2014 via mobile

Good lunch at a price. We visited today with friends and were very pleased with the welcome, ambiance and layout of the pub.
For some reason we were given the dinner menu but told that it we could order from it. Subsequently, after ordering, we discovered that there was a lunch menu containing a number of lighter and less expensive alternatives.
Starters were prawns in a chilli marinade and scallops with salad and bread. Mains were lamb, pork belly and sea trout with a nice dish of freshly cooked vegetables and desserts were Eton mess, creme brûlée,apple crumble and custard and hazelnut ice cream with toffee sauce.
The pub was full at lunch time and it would be advisable to book. If you are in the area The Rising Sun is a good choice for a visit.

“Return trip”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

having lived on the Quantocks half a century ago, it was a delight to return to W Bagborough and eat at the Rising Sun. Excellent food well served at satisfactory prices. I shall not leave it so long next time.

recommended about 20 years ago,,well worth the trip for lunch.Friendly welcome fantastic beer Sharing starter fro 2 was fine for 3 and delicious My salmon with crayfish tails was beautifully cooked with freshly cooked veges The steak bun was spot on with blue cheese and a fresh salad. The fish cake was really with whole prawns /fish. Chips were "proper" chips!Puddings were unusual and yummyfinished with a generous cafetiere of coffee.Very pretty pub in a lovely village ..worth driving on up the road for the views.Would visit again .

“Improve your service”
Reviewed 18 May 2014 via mobile

Lovely pub although parking is a nightmare. Sat upstairs and enjoyed a three course meal each. Pigeon starter was nice but a feeble portion for the best part of nine quid. Service was average, long periods of time between service and for the waitress wearing a stripy shirt on Saturday night, you place cutlery onto the place settings for the customer paying large amounts money for your food, you don't hand the customer the cutlery to do the job for you!!!!!!! Even a simple request like water was forgotten. When you employ weekend dumb students to help waitress it all goes pear shaped. So to sum up, food is good but service poor during busy times. Three course meal for two with a few drinks, not much change from a hundred quid. You have been warned!!!!!!!!

“Excellent food and Ambience”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

We knew to book, only wanted their famous Whitebait and garlic dip, but we got more...
Their salad is freshly sourced and always prepared per order, very nicely presented and the whole meal albeit a starter was heaven.
The best bit was the dishwasher sprung a leak in the bar which was higher than our table and promptly leaked under our table oops, but hey these guys are pros and even though we had to be mopped out twice until the excess was stemmed the professionalism that was shown was superb, and no children or pets were used in the making of this!
I would recommend this friendly pub/restaurant as it's family run and the food is locally sourced and cooked to perfection at a reasonable price, and it doesn't matter if you're new or local, the greeting and service is unique and special.

Thank you yet again for a lovely time...WELL DONE
