Visited for afternoon tea for my birthday and it was AMAZING. The sandwiches and cake selection were lovely. The staff couldn't do enough for us and they even went out of the way by making my day so special by bringing a glass of Prosecco which I wasn't expecting. The venue and gardens are beautiful. I would highly recommend.

Made booking not realise that the bottomless part was the drinks, anyway we went as it was my daughters birthday.
On arriving the foyer was dark and dismal, we was asked to wait in the lounge area the fireplace was beautiful, but there was no fire lit, which would’ve been nice as it was a chilly day.

12 o’clock we was asked to go to the bar area where there was a table with cutlery and a folding napkin, salt and pepper.Spit and sawdust was missing !.

I must say not very inviting, we was the only ones eating! Again, they had a fireplace it was not lit and rather chilly. The room next door had tables all laid out white table cloths, cutlery, glasses, would it have been a hardship to put the customers in a more inviting environment?.

My point being ,paying £60 and told at time of booking we be treated like royalty. We beg to differ.
Food not great tad on the cold side, going by other reviews it’s an ongoing trend ! Should have read theses before booking.

A nice building that has had its soul removed and being left to die by the current owners. The dirty well worn carpet greets you upon entry together with an extension cable trailing out of the door which was charging a car in the car park, after which we were hit by the smell of fish in reception.

The table wasn't quite ready so we waited in the unwelcoming reception area with it's worn furniture and decor and unlit fire which only added to the negative first impressions.

The dining room was equally depressing with uncomfortable chairs which might have been acceptable in say a marquee but not in a 1901 Mansion. Just a few little touches could have gone a long way to lift the mood of the place such as a vases of flowers on the fireplace which again was laying dormant like in reception.

Moving on the afternoon tea was fairly uninspiring and bland. Asked for Earl Grey tea but got Assam.

On a positive note all the staff were very friendly and it wasn't that expensive at £22 a head but it doesn't excuse all the above and therefore made £44 for two seem over the top for the overall experience.

Needless to say we won't be coming back.

Beautiful venue with helpful staff BUT we were charged £80 for lunch for four of us. This may sound reasonable except it was four sandwiches and a bowl of chips!! Sandwiches were fine but cauliflower is an odd filling to include. Very overpriced. Quite shocked!!

    Room tip: Avoid lunch!
