“Our Favourite Resort in the World”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

I do not know how this property is not number 1 in TripAdvisor. From the moment you step out of the comfortable town car (with complimentary wifi), the entire resort takes your breath away. Walking into reception, as the view of the resort came more and more into sight, I was astounded by how beautiful the property was. The grounds were immaculate, and we did a tour of the property to fully appreciate everything from the amenities to the plants.

As expected, the Four Seasons hospitality is world class and the staff (unintentionally) did everything they could to make me want to move out of my home and into the resort forever. I highly recommend the "Day in the Life of a Balinese Farmer" excursion, where we got to tour the surrounding Sayan village and work with a local farmer to plant and work in the rice paddies, followed by an amazing spa experience. That was probably the highlight of our trip.

The property is also close to Ubud and there is complimentary town car shuttle that will take you to and fro. The rooms are amazing and will take your breath away - they are bigger than most people's condos at home. The food is so good and so fresh and the drinks are also delicious.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about the FS Sayan is how integrated they are with the community, as over half their staff are right from the local village. The land is shared as well as the harvests and though the costs of staying here are high, it helps to know that a good portion of that money is going towards the villagers of Sayan.

Thank you for an amazing experience and we hope to return soon.

Room Tip: Stay in a villa if you can afford it.

No GM could ask for a better compliment than what you stated. Thank you so much for your kind words. Truly motivating to all of us.

The Balinese farmer experience is a special experience that is catered to adults and kids. Children love this activity as they get all muddy and get hosed down, experience planting rice and love the village walk through the forest. It's a perfect family activity.

Here at the Four Seasons we try to incorporate the community into the day to day life of the resort. From hiring local farmers, gardeners, security staff and second generation families in our restaurants etc. Most the staff also own the land the resort is built on so there is a genuine care and love for the resort that is beneficial for both.

Once again, thank you so much for your kind words and we hope you will spread the word and will have another opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

Sincerely
Uday

The Hookah service is catching on and is much liked by those who dare to try it.

Thank you so much for your feedback. It's always nice to hear such positive comments as they mean a lot to the staff to hear them from guests. Rest assured I shall share them with the team.

Look forward to welcoming you back to Bali one day and do spread the word to your family and friends. We shall take good care of them.

Spent four nights in a riverfront villa. The property is beautiful. The service is excellent and polished. I highly recommend the riverfront villa. The quiet peaceful view and the plunge pool are a great way to relax.

For on site activities we did the village walk and the bike ride and both were great. The Ayung river barbecue night was AWESOME.

We did room service for every breakfast and a couple lunches. I thought the prices were reasonable; yes expensive but not outrageously so given where you are and the level of service. All the food we got through room service was very good in preparation and presentation.

It's pretty quick/easy/cheap to take a taxi to and from Ubud central.

The general manager came to greet us when we checked in; that was a nice touch.

Room Tip: We loved our riverfront villa.

Thank you for your comments!

The River Front Villas are the most popular as one cannot get any closer to nature, the forest, the river than these villas. One does feel immersed into nature and it's an incredible experience.
I am glad you enjoyed your experience with us.

Your feedback on the pricing is much appreciated. The price reduction we have done is having a positive impact and glad you feel it's reasonable.

I shall continue to meet guests on arrival as best as I can and continue to make do my best to make it a special and memorable experience for all those that come.

We look forward to welcoming you back.

Sincerely
Uday

My husband and I had a fabulous time at the Four Seasons Sayan during our first trip to Bali. I say the first trip, because this hotel and the wonderful place that is Bali makes us want to return soon!! We had a villa in the main building, and the rooms were very spacious, well kept, great amenities, and the service was impeccable. We received a lot of help in catering to our day trips to various places, booking events for us, and even ordering us some local delivery pizza when we weren't in the mood for the hotel's cuisine one night!

Two comments/suggestions to continue to improve others' experiences:
1. I think it is absolutely fantastic that you provide complimentary bottle water in the lobby, at the gym, and in the rooms. I didn't quite understand why the restaurant only had bottle water cost near $9 USD per bottle. My husband and I quickly learned to either not order water or to bring our own from our rooms.

2. My husband and I are both vegetarian, and with the number of Hindus in Bali and the influx of Indian visitors, I would assume you have other strict vegetarian guests who frequent the hotel. The menu left us with not a whole lot of options for dinner (breakfast was fine and lunch we did in Ubud every day). In fact, we never got to see the second restarurant/café by the pool which may have had a different menu because the hours had it closing before dinner time. I would encourage a few more vegetarian friendly options either at the main restaurant or making the second restaurant also open for dinner. Frankly, we ended up wanting something low key the last night and the concierge recommended a local pizza place that delivered to the hotel, which was great.

Room Tip: There are private villas on the premise, which provide a unique experience, but you can't go wro...

Thank you very much for your feedback and comments.

I am delighted to read you enjoyed the villa, the amenities, the service and overall experience was one that you would do all over again. No better compliment from a guest who would like to return.

We will review again our menus and see how we can add more vegetarian options on it to enhance it. The second restaurant is only open for lunch and not for dinner. Dinner is only during the dry season, typically from June through October.

Thank you once again and look forward to welcoming you back.

Sincerely
Uday

Only bad part is the TOTALLY silent Bar, which is extremely close to the lobby. This hotel needs a place to have a nice drink with your couple, family or friends observing the amazing view.

aside from that

Thank you very much for your feedback. I am delighted to read that you had an "amazing experience" and your honeymoon was great.

With regards to our bar, it is quiet, however, we do have live acoustic guitar and a singer few times a week. Yes, when they are not playing, other music could be played and we shall certainly look into this. Again, thank you very much and appreciate the comments.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Have a wonderful holiday season ahead.

Our third time in Bali and first time out of Seminyak.

We stayed at villa 3. We debated between a regular villa and a river view and chose the regular but what we should have done is to either choose the river view or the room. Unless the privacy of a villa is important I would actually recommend the room. We had a quick look around and it was spacious, had a nice view and was convenient.

We ended up using the main pool (much nicer) during the day and stayed indoors during the evening (too many bugs).

Good points:
1. Really nice layout. Spacious and relaxing. The river gave great background noise, there were a lot of greens from the trees and the farming plots.

2. Villa was excellently appointed. Quirky but nice entry.

3. Amazing staff. It isn't a small resort but staff called us by name most times and everyone felt genuine and very keen to help us have a good time.

Some downsides:

1. Food wasn't the best. We ate once at the lily pond, snacked at the river view cafe and ate breakfast daily at the main restaurant. No problems - just not exciting. On the first morning, the cold cuts had a funky smell so we avoided but all was OK by the next morning.

2. Lots of bugs. But this is Bali and the resort is somewhat integrated into a forest and a river with its own rice paddies so just pack the DEET sprays!

Thank you very much for your feedback.

We take this very seriously and continue to strive and improve listening to our customers and make changes where and when we can. Your comments on the food are well noted and we shall definitely look into it right away.

The great news is that we have a new chef on board who has joined us few days back and we shall look for his creativity, expertise and culinary experience to revamp the menus in the weeks ahead. We are excited to have Chef Jocelyn on board.

As for the bugs, I wish I could control them. But we have the sprays, the incense burners, bug repellent which definitely helps. And many take it as part of the experience since it is the forest and surrounded by nature at it's most beautiful.

Thank you once again and look forward to welcoming you back.

Sincerely
Uday

Absolutely beautiful resort! We stayed in a lovely villa with private plunge pool. Very tastefully decorated, comfortable accommodations. The included breakfast is excellent. Staff is warm, everyone knows your name, and the manager is present and truly is a wonderful host of the property! The setting on the river is breathtaking. Swimming pool and spa are wonderful, too. We were very glad to have selected this location rather than the beach property.

Thank you for selecting the mountains and the forest over the beach. It's a shame how so many come to Bali and don't even get a chance to see the true Bali, the essence of Bali, which is in Ubud. Glad you got a taste of it and enjoyed your stay with us.

Your kind words are very motivating and rest assured shall be shared with the team.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
