“Brownhill House A place for a Rest”
Reviewed 3 February 2014

We have on our numerous stays at Brownhill House always found it a pleasure and an education. The hosts are interesting, knowledgeable and very helpful, they have plenty of local information on places to see.

. Rooms comfortable and well appointed and breakfast, delicious. Still have "proper" kippers not the tasteless fillets.

Sadly we are not able to visit as often as we used to even a couple of nights felt h like a rest cure in this B and B with its beautiful views and garden

Room Tip: Swimming pool not applicable

We first stayed at Brownhill House about 20 years ago, having chosen it at random but were attracted by the garden. The garden was wonderful but so was the B & B - it is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The breakfast menu spoils you for choice - you select your options the night before as you do in many other B & Bs, no problem. Breakfast is served round a large table in the dining area with an open-plan kitchen right next door, so conversation round the table is aided by Yoland's extensive knowledge of the area while she prepares the food. She and Roger are friendly and hospitable hosts, willing to help in any way needed. There is no TV in the rooms but during the evening the guests usually gather round the dining table to share some of Yoland's homemade beer or tea if preferred and lively conversation is the order of the day - who needs TV? A hospitality tray is provided for that early morning cuppa. We have returned many times since our first visit and thoroughly recommend a stay here - we are not good at reviews, hence only doing it now!

Room Tip: All rooms are ensuite and equally good - we have tried the twin and double and our son the single. A...

Having arrived we were shown our rooms. We then went into the lounge and asked Yolande if there was somewhere we could eat. She told us of a pub but she would need to ring and book for us, as we had not long eaten so we could not give a time. We then asked for anywhere else and she said Nesscliffe we asked for directions she then said "WHICH PART OF YOUR BRAIN IS NOT WORKING, HOW DID YOU GET HERE" Well we were shocked, how can you speak to paying guests like that? We followed the Sat Nav not a map, and did not realise we had to memorise the Ordinance Survey. We would have left there and then but she would have taken our money anyway. Beware of her downright rudeness.
There are no TVs in the rooms thats ok but not to have any facilities to make a drink.
NO KETTLE No Cups, tea bags or coffee, only biscuits.
You have to chose what you want for beakfast the night before. Also at beakfast she asked how long we would be as they were going out. No router attached to the computer.

Room Tip: No facilities to make a drink in the rooms.
