Myself and three work colleagues enjoyed a wonderful evening at Saracens at Hadnall. We had decided to try the tasting menu at £29.95 a head. We were offered drinks in the bar, which were bought to us by a very pleasant waitress, who later showed us to our table and was attentive, without being obtrusive, all night. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio Rose, which was very plae in colour but crisp, cold and delicious! We started with an amuse bouche of cream cheese, chives and parma ham with homemade cream of tomato soup poured over, this was very tasty. Next came a carpaccio of lamb with a pea fritter and beetroot puree. The carpaccio was lovely, very tender and delicately flavoured with basil. Next was a haddock chowder with a smoked mackerel fillet and babycorn. This was a standout course, absolutely delicious! The main course was a duo of pork (crispy pork belly and a breadcrumbed pork ball) served with chive mash and a three mustard sauce. Feeling a bit full by now I left most of my mash and pork belly! As it was a very hot evening we took our drinks outside for a breather and were asked if we would like our desserts served in the garden, which we agreed was a great idea! After a suitable interval our first dessert of white chocolate and honeycomb parfait was served. This was lovely, served with frozen raspberry crumbled on top. My only criticism was that there was raspberry couli under the glass, it would have been nice if it had been in the bottom of the glass as part of the dessert. Finally we were served a hot gooseberry and elderflower souffle with the most delicious elderflower ice cream, it was to die for! We rounded off the evening with coffees (served with a homemade shortbread) and liqueurs, all in all a lovely evening which I would definitely recommend to others, well done Saracens!
