“Wonderful tasting menu”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Myself and three work colleagues enjoyed a wonderful evening at Saracens at Hadnall. We had decided to try the tasting menu at £29.95 a head. We were offered drinks in the bar, which were bought to us by a very pleasant waitress, who later showed us to our table and was attentive, without being obtrusive, all night. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio Rose, which was very plae in colour but crisp, cold and delicious! We started with an amuse bouche of cream cheese, chives and parma ham with homemade cream of tomato soup poured over, this was very tasty. Next came a carpaccio of lamb with a pea fritter and beetroot puree. The carpaccio was lovely, very tender and delicately flavoured with basil. Next was a haddock chowder with a smoked mackerel fillet and babycorn. This was a standout course, absolutely delicious! The main course was a duo of pork (crispy pork belly and a breadcrumbed pork ball) served with chive mash and a three mustard sauce. Feeling a bit full by now I left most of my mash and pork belly! As it was a very hot evening we took our drinks outside for a breather and were asked if we would like our desserts served in the garden, which we agreed was a great idea! After a suitable interval our first dessert of white chocolate and honeycomb parfait was served. This was lovely, served with frozen raspberry crumbled on top. My only criticism was that there was raspberry couli under the glass, it would have been nice if it had been in the bottom of the glass as part of the dessert. Finally we were served a hot gooseberry and elderflower souffle with the most delicious elderflower ice cream, it was to die for! We rounded off the evening with coffees (served with a homemade shortbread) and liqueurs, all in all a lovely evening which I would definitely recommend to others, well done Saracens!

“Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

I have been to The Saracens with family at Christmas a couple of times and always thought the food was delicious and the service excellent, so we decided to try a mid-year Sunday lunch with 6 friends. What an excellent meal and what amazing value for money! We all had three delicious courses, and every plate went back cleared. Good variety of choices for each course, and all made with care and attention. At £12.75 for all three courses, we all agreed that this was beyond good value and we will certainly be going again as soon as we can.

“Disappointing.”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

It has been a couple of years or even longer since we went to the Saracens. It was one restaurant in Shrewsbury that was reliably and consistently good. Last week we took two friends from out of town to dinner there.
The staff were young and there didn't appear to any senior member of staff present.
The food was not good generally. The waitress lacked knowledge of the menu.
The service was generally poor and lacklustre. The steak was overlooked and tough. The pork had been reheated. We did not complain because it was a special occasion and we did not want to embarrass our guests.

The toilets were not clean and the Ladies had no toilet paper.

We will not be returning unfortunately.

The owner used to look after us personally. I now know that the restaurant has changed hands and obviously this is the result of the changes. Very very disappointing.

“Outstanding Food”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Four of us stayed last weekend on a Groupon Deal which included a 7 course taster menu which was outstanding, could hardly move afterwards. The breakfasts were just as good, nice choice and cooked just right. We seemed to be the only ones staying there, the rooms were small but comfortable. Only 5 miles from Shrewsbury so was a great location.

“Just excellent.”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

I purchased a voucher from Groupon which included a two night stay for two with breakfast and a 7 course tasting menu. I definitely got value for money! The breakfast both mornings was absolutely lovely and the tasting menu was some of the best food I have ever had. The service was quick and very polite. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone and will hopefully be returning myself!

The accommodation was not particularly special but was perfectly comfortable, clean and well-serviced with TV, hairdryer, tea-making facilities etc. I believe the accommodation is undergoing a revamp at the moment...
