“Your semi-private beach”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

Beautiful small white sand beach with calm, clear water and good snorkeling. Nearby trees provide shade and a sense of sanctuary. There is now a 5$ parking charge charge for non-residents, which you can pay by credit card at the "parking box." I am told they can tell visitors by the license plate number on the rental car, so don't cheat! Besides, this such a small price for such beauty and the well-maintained facilities.

“Sigh”
Reviewed 10 November 2013

We've been visiting this beach for 20 years and it has always been one of our favorites. The snorkeling can be quite good but like all of Kohala, the wind comes up in the afternoons and visibility declines. Over the years Wai'alea has become more and more crowded - first when the road was paved and then when the restrooms and shower were installed. It can get pretty packed now. Tourists beware that the County of Hawaii has begun charging visitors $5 to park all day.

“Sunset views”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

We came here after relaxing sometime at the hapuna beach. My husband tried to do some snorkeling here, but the water was rough and it was after 5. So we just enjoyed a nice romantic sunset. And the fun started afterward when we got ourselves locked out of the car :). So this beach is unforgettable for us!!!

“Little Gem on Big Island”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

My idea of a perfect beach,
No jet Skis or banana boats, No hotels or noisy bars
Just great sand, great water and lovely shady trees that wrap around giving you your own private area. Also quiet even on the busiest of days
Its half way around the world from us, but we would go again at a drop of a hat

“Great Beach!”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

We stayed at Fairmont Orchid, and this little gem was only about 10 minutes away. Great beach with tons of shade and not very crowded, even on a Saturday. Good snorkeling around the large rock. Do watch the ocean conditions, as it can get a little rough. My husband snorkeled all the way around the cove to Hapuna Beach. He almost didn't make it back, as conditions rapidly changed while he was snorkeling, but he is still raving about the octopus he saw and the huge variety of fish. There is a large parking lot, bathrooms, and a shower. A great little beach!
