“Consistently good food, good service and ambience”

In the unlikely location of Calverton this restaurant repeatedly delivers excellent food, service and ambience here in the East Midlands. Frequent menu changes and a wine list patriotically always including an English wine

“Not quite right”
Reviewed 7 December 2013 via mobile

On arrival we were shown straight to our table even though we were a little early. We had to ask for someone to take my wife's coat. Where we were sat I had a lovely view of an open store room. I asked if the room had a door as I wasn't keen on the view and was told it did not. The service was rushed and the serving staff not very confident one bordering on rude. I think due to a lack of training or experience rather than intent. The food was worth 4 stars and was enjoyable but the dining experience was not. The bill came to over £100 for the two of us which included a very average Chablis. So I cannot say was good value. The bar side was busy with groups of mainly young guys which made a trip to the loo more like a nightclub experience. It was December and they did have large parties to cater for later in the evening which may have had an impact but I can only review the experience we had and not what we might have had.

“Special Occasion”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

We arrived and waited at reception too long. Felt ignored. Shown straight to table but would have thought the lounge would have been a better waiting area. Not sure where to leave coats so left them on backs of our chairs. Slow to ask if we required drinks whilst waiting for all our party to arrive. Slow drinks service. Food wasn't served to whole table efficiently, came with delays so several people kept waiting with food cooling in front of them. It would have been nice to have been reminded vegetables were not included in the price as most missed the opportunity having thought they would be included. Meal was very nice but spoiled by slow service.

“Fantastic Evening for All”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone at Oscars for the Christmas meal we had on Saturday night. The team of 38 all enjoyed it very much and sat down to enjoy three great courses, fantastic drinks and an excellent atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and the food was outstanding. We would highly recommend Oscars to everyone whether you are a family looking for somewhere to have a quiet meal or a business looking to treat your staff for their hard work. A brilliant night all round.

Many Thanks

“Smart lunch”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

We had heard the food was good here, so called in during a short hike on a winter's day. The welcome was friendly and confident, the ambience smart and modern. There was an adventurous choice of drinks, and Kir Royal fitted the bill on a cold day (cassis and champagne). We went for the soup of the day, a white onion soup with plenty of flavour. 'Traditional' fish and chips was non-traditionally presented on a wooden board, with chunky chips in a Jenga mini-tower. The peas were semi-creamed and delicious. The fish was cooked just nicely, with a compact crunchy batter.
We still had to hike home, so reluctantly skipped the sweets. The manager was friendly to talk with, and clearly knew his onions. Excellent treat, we were glad we went.
