We were upgraded from a classic room to a deluxe room without asking which was great. Lovely room with antique furniture & lake view. Breakfast ok. English breakfast buffet style rather than freshly cooked to order. Staff very friendly. Dinner was quite nice, dessert delicious.

We, as part of a group of four, have just returned from a four night Christmas break at the Derwentwater. My wife and I paid extra for a suite which consisted of two rooms, well equipped and provided with thoughtful and much appreciated little extras. The room itself is due for refurbishment and the shower caused some difficulties ( which were partially remedied by manager David, getting himself suitably damp in the process.) My sister and her husband occupied a standard room which was excellent and with which they were delighted.

Clearly more work is required to restore the hotel to it's former glory and it is good to hear that David intends further improvements in 2014.Special mention must be made of the staff who were without exception courteous and efficient throughout our stay. Our fellow residents were friendly and many are regular visitors to the Derwentwater. Our interaction with them made the experience even more enjoyable.

Overall we all enjoyed the Christmas break in warm and friendly surroundings with plentiful food and pleasant low key entertainment in the evenings. So much so that we have rebooked for Christmas 2014.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review after your Christmas break. I will make sure all the team get to see a copy of your comments.

I am over the moon to read that you had a great time, and the fact you rebooked for 2014 is reward for all the teams work over the festive period. You have mentioned the work we have planned, and this I agree is needed to keep on improving the hotel. It certainly makes a difference, and next years plan to invest in 16 bedroom facilities will get us a long way down this path.

Have a wonderful New Year.

Kind Regards

Stayed here several times in 2013. Really recommend it. Very easy walking distance for Keswick for shopping and eating, out if you wish, without having to drive. Many walks from the doorstep. Breakfast menu is excellent. Staff very friendly. Evening menu has plenty of choice, is well cooked and efficiently served. On one of our visits we found we had been allocated The Ruskin suite with the most fantastic bathroom. Will be back next year without doubt especially as they can provide safe bike storage. Sharing a bottle of wine in the beautiful garden is really something special.

We went here for a short weekend, and had no complaints, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The room was nice and cosy especially with the wind and rain, it was too hot so we had to turn down the heating. The food was really good , there were lots of choices to suit everyone. It is a short walk away from Keswick but we didn't have a problem with that. The hotel is quiet and we would go back again - definitely !

We stayed in the Walpole Deluxe room. I'm not sure but I think this was an upgrade. Either way the room was very nice with antique furniture, loads of space and a fantastic view over the gardens to the lake. The breakfast was only slightly above average but no complaints. We had a walk down the path to the lake but water levels were so high we could only get so far! We had a nice evening listening to the live singer on Saturday night. The atmosphere in the place was very friendly. Special mention for the Hungarian guy behind the bar. he displayed a really customer focused and friendly approach. We enjoyed our stay and this was great value for money!

Room Tip: The Walpole Deluxe room is excellent!

Arrived at hotel and we were upgraded to the Ruskin Suite. Also in the room was a packet of Thorntons Chocolates which was much appreciated. Room was warm and spacious. Hotel staff work very hard and are always polite and smiling. Had a walk around Derwentwater and thoroughly enjoyed our drink in the hotel bar when we arrived back. Shall certainly be back in the New Year.

Stayed in this hotel for a few days in December, and on first impression I was very impressed with the value for money. The hotel seemed impressive as you walk through the front door, but is in need of a touch up on the conservatory windows. But saying that, once we got to our room (206) we couldn't have been happier! It was warm, spacious and quiet with a lovely view of the gardens and lake. Everything we needed was at our disposal, and I loved that the biscuits were replaced daily. We are already talking about booking a room here over the summer so we can make the most of this lovely location. As for the staff, the ones we came into contact with (mainly the bar staff as we are a young couple) were always smiling and seemed happy to help...Hope to be there again soon.
