We booked online for a last minute weekend stay and came across this place, as a young couple we were defiantly outnumbered by older guests but it was a really nice location with a stunning little walk into Keswick. The room was spacious and clean and we sat in the bar/lounge later and the drink and service was very good! Breakfast was included and was a massive choice, the scrambled egg didn't resemble anything like egg but cereals and toast etc we're fab, you can't expect everything from a cheap last minute room! Would revisit .

Dear guest,

Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback, I am pleased to hear your last minute break was an enjoyable one and that you enjoyed the beautiful walk into Keswick, one of my personal favourites.

I will raise your comments regarding the breakfast with our chef and hopefully the next tme you visit, the scrambled egg will be more to your liking. We look forward to seeing you again on your next trip.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your lovely review.

I am delighted you enjoyed your stay and I will pass your feedback onto the team, particularly the Restaurant Team who I will be meeting with tomorrow.

I understand your comments about refurbishment, and agree some areas of the hotel are in need. The good news is that we are refurbishing 16 rooms next month on top of the 8 we did late last year.

I hope to see you again soon.

Kind Regards

Stayed in the Derwentwater Hotel in Portinscale with 3 of my best friends. The hotel is in need of some refurbishment but the staff are absolutely amazing. They go above and beyond to cater for everyone's needs. They treat every guest with the same courteous and cheerful manner. I think it is great that's dogs are welcomed in this hotel. Would return again.

Room Tip: Room 238 has a lovely big bathroom but a view of the staffs accommodation.

Just spent a 3 night weekend break at this hotel. It is ideally situated in the village of Portinscale, a 15 minute walk from Keswick town and perfect for a walking break. The hotel is a little dated and in need of some tlc. The reception area is not very welcoming, but the staff made up for this, in fact all the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was on the second floor above the entrance and was clean, coffee/tea facilities but the bathroom was in need of tlc. Unfortunately other guests had their dogs with them and one barked continually for an hour or more each evening whilst the owners were having their meal! Good choice of cereals plus cooked items for breakfast and a good choice each evening. To sum up: fair value for money and yes, we will stay again if visiting the
Keswick area for a walking break.

Dear guest, thank you so much for taking the time to give us your feedback from your recent stay.

I appreciate all of your comments and take them all onboard, I apologise for any inconvenience you may have been caused by the dog barking near your room. I hope you can appreciate such matters are difficult for us to control, we do instead tend to rely on guests with dogs to look after them responsibly.

It would seem however that this didn't impact too much on your stay and I am pleased to hear the food was to your liking and our team helped make it an enjoyable one.

We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to the Lake District.

Just stayed here at the weekend (9th March) with my husband we had a lovely stay, the hotel is a bit dated but great value for money and the staff our great. The young lady on reception (helen) was fab giving us lots of local information and sorted tickets out for the boat on the lake nothing was too much trouble for her even when she was very busy checking people out and taking bookings. We will back again later in the year. thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view room with paying extra.

Portinscale is less than a mile from Keswick. It's well away from most of the tourists and a great spot for a break balancing access to bustling Keswick with relative seclusion.
The Derwentwater Hotel is ideally placed in Portinscale, enjoying an off road walk to Keswick and pleasant gardens down to Derwent Water and spectacular views down to the mountains which make Borrowdale.
As for the Hotel...well it's changed and everything about it says "coach tours". The breakfast was OK but was basic and in a large characterless dining room. The lounge now has primarily hard chairs and tables so no chance to relax in a sofa after a day's walking. Our bedroom was fine, functional and of a decent size and decor.
We booked online with Laterooms.com and saved about 30%(Hotel wouldn't negotiate on price over the phone).

Room Tip: Classic rooms at rear are better value and still have a good view of pleasant gardens
