“Excellent location”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

We love the position of this B&B in the little village of Portinscale; within easy walking distance of Keswick but in a much more peaceful and attractive location. Perfect place to leave your car behind and walk from the door.

Our room was large, spotlessly clean and had a very large en suite. It was lovely and warm. Flat screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast was very good. Some garden benches outside to sit on if weather is fine. Nice pub in the village which does OK bar meals. We will stay again.

Me & my husband stayed for 2 nights, 21st & 22nd march. We stayed in room 6 and it was spacious & well decorated with a large bathroom. It had everything you expect plus lovely views. Breakfast was delicious, the Cumberland sausage and egg were cooked to perfection and served by friendly & helpful staff. On site secure parking was an added bonus as nearby keswick it is hard to find somewhere that isn't a public pay and display car park. From rickerby grange keswick is only a 15 minute stroll away where there is plenty of shops, pubs and things to do plus derwentwater lake is extremely close by. If you are not a regular to the lakes staff at rickerby grange will happily point your nose it the right direction to paths and a place to get great food. The farmers arms just 2 mins walk from rickerby grange has a good selection of food and drink with reasonable prices & friendly atmosphere. The only down side is that the public sitting room/bar area at rickerby grange appeared to always be locked maybe because we are not quite into the high season but it by no means affected our stay or from a return visit sometime in the future.

We stayed here with our two young children for 3 nights. While we found the rooms to be a bit dated, the staff was friendly, the place was clean and the cooked breakfast was very good. We thought that it was excellent value for money especially compared to the pricier places in Keswick. For our young family, it worked out better to be 5 minutes out of Keswick as the parking was easy and there were some nice little walks and restaurants within 10 minutes by foot. And Keswick and its restaurants were only a short ride away by boat or car.

I stayed here for one night as I was working in the area. A nice welcome from the owner and the lovely dog. I had room 5 which was warm and toasty on a rainy, cold and windy night. The bed was comfortable and I slept straight through til my alarm went off. Pretty and functional bathroom with hot water! I would have liked wireless internet access as I had work to do, but couldn't find a signal, not surprised when on opening the curtains I saw I was surrounded by mountains! (Had arrived in the dark). Anyway it was rather nice to be cut off from the outside world and just relax. Breakfast was absolutely lush, lots of help yourself bits and a good choice of cooked items, can highly recommend the sausages.

Room Tip: No complaints about room 5, would stay in it again.

Mattress was past it's use by date by a country mile.... (this being about the most (to me) important element of an accommodation house)... maybe room 6 the odd one out.

Otherwise everything was great... spotlessly clean ..

Pub 5 minutes walk provided excellent evening meals.

Has plenty of parking and it seems madness to stay in narrow car congested Keswick streets trying to find a place to park close to a B and B unless you relish the idea of dodging Dog excreta lugging your baggage around.

My fiancée and I stayed in Rickerby Grange Country House during a weekend in September and it was a very good selection. This place is located in a very nice area closer to the Derwentwater Lake. The views around are beautiful, all around mountains and green. There is a nice and clean footpath to the lake which takes about 20 mins. The house is also about 20 mins walking distance to the city center. Derwentwater Lake is the most beautiful lake in the Lake District I guess. It’s not busy as Windermere, but very calm and quite where you can enjoy the beauty of nature. Staff is very friendly, nice welcome and also provided information about things to do and where to go around Keswick. Rooms are clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast is warm and delicious. Bathrooms are clean but having a bigger shower cubicle would have added better comfort. Free and specious parking area is a bonus. Thank you very much for the hospitality.
