Stayed in Portinscale for a long weekend and decided to visit this restaurant and what a treat it was every course was sheer delight and the attention to detail of the way the food was presented was just perfection. This is a restaurant not to be missed if visiting this area we will certainly visit again.

We went for an evening meal on recommendation from our B&B host. The welcome and service was excellent, so was the food! We had fish, steak, and the tattie pot. All delicious, the steak was cooked just as we liked it. The puds were delicious too! We had driven passed this place many times on our way to the Newlands Pass, we will definitely call in again!

Booked as a belated anniversary meal, we chose this place on the basis of other reviews and the thoughtful menu.

We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant itself is light and airy with simple but high quality decor. The transition from daytime tearoom to evening restaurant is a successful one.

We selected the Camembert fondue for a shared starter. It was very well presented and tasted fantastic. The recommend Pinot Grigio was an excellent match, cutting through the cheese flavours and cleansing the pallet well before the main course.

For my main, I chose the dry-aged ribeye steak and, for the thick end of £20 was expecting great things. It almost lived up to my expectations, but not quite. The appearance and texture of the steak suggested that it was indeed an excellent piece of meat. However, it came in a herby crust, had seasoned butter on it and was served with a nice selection of side vegetables which included shredded fennel. Combined with the glass of serious Cabernet Sauvignon, there wasn't much room for the subtle flavours of the meat and I was just a tiny bit disappointed. This is just down to personal preference and I cannot fault the care and attention that went into the preparation of the dish.

My wife on the other hand chose the Mediterranean roasted vegetable stack and found it exactly to her liking. She isn't vegetarian but was saving herself for the dessert menu! This brings us neatly on to the meringue with raspberry compote which was an absolute triumph, with chewy meringue and the freshest sauce either of us have ever tasted.

Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and would definitely return. The decision to make wine recommendations and offer each wine by the glass is a great one and really helps to make the most of both the food and the wine.
