“Idyllic stay in the heart of the Lakes”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

Beautiful apartment, stunning location, knowledgeable hosts. Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

We stayed at Lingholm for my birthday weekend in January 2014 and had the most fantastic time. Jenny is the perfect host. We stayed in the Swinside and were blown away by the apartment. The rooms elegantly decorated and just the scale of it is amazing! We had everything we could need and on the first night completely gave up on our plans to wander to the local pub, in favour of staying in and just enjoying the wonderful apartment.

We had a great walk up Catbells and High Spy - reached from the estate grounds, and a lovely day out pony trekking followed by a great pub lunch in Keswick - it's all so accessible.

We were lucky enough to get shown around the rest of the house and it was just as impressive. Jenny has established great local knowledge so can point you in the right direction for anything you need. Jenny and Jo have some great plans for how they will be developing the grounds and the estate - we cannot wait to return and see how it's all going!

My partner and I had the most amazing experience at the Lingholm Estate weekend of February 22nd 2014. We were accommodated in the beautiful apartment, Swinside in the west wing of the main house and found it elegant, spacious yet cosy and warm and very comfortable! Hosts Jenny and Joe had thought of everything including a fabulous welcome basket with fresh bread, fruit tea loaf and jams!

We had a great walk / ramble down to the lake and explored the grounds! It was fascinating to see the breadth of the project that Jenny and Joe have undertaken in restoring the estate to its former glory! Fans of Grand designs will be able to see a real project first hand and feel part of the project!

Jenny organized an amazing surprise for our first anniversary and following a tour of the 'Big House' we were led into a beautifully dressed oak pannelled dining room set for two with fizz chilling and music filling the log fired warm air! A super three course meal of locally sourced delishiousness followed ending with handmade artisan chocolates! I can't thank her enough for her a) excellent acting skills in keeping the secret! and role as co-conspirator and b) her attention to detail in every aspect of the weekend.

We are already planning a return visit with friends.
A fantastic and unique experience and a yet hidden gem in the lakeland landscape!
I can't recommend it more heartily!.

A large group of us visited 'The Lingholm Estate' for 4 Nights including New Years Eve. Adults and Children all had a fab time. What a fabulous place! Jenny and Joe the management team couldn't have been more helpful. The House is amazing and the grounds breath taking. We walked, we ate and we enjoyed a fab break with our friends a perfect end to 2013 and start to 2014. Definitely a must do in 2014 to visit Lingholm Estate to recharge your batteries and spend some time in a lovely part of the country with lovely hosts!! We will certainly be visiting Lingholm again to create some more memories for our children.
Thankyou Jenny and Joe x

Returning to Lingholm is like going home, we have visited many times, staying in various apartments or cottages. In times of stress it has recharged us, in times of joy has has uplifted us, and in times of sorrow like now has sustained us. It is an oasis of calm amidst a world of turmoil with its extensive grounds and access to the lake. The accommodation is most comfortable and well appointed and despite being a five minute drive to keswick ( half an hours walk through the fields via Portinscale village) you could equally be a thousand miles away from anywhere. We had a few concerns this time about the change of ownership recently, but all was unfounded as Jenny and Joe are most welcoming and want all their guests to treat Lingholm as ' home' and we were delighted to hear the house was recently granted a grade 2 status , plus to learn of future plans to make Lingholm accessible to others as well, as part of a long term plan.Needless to say, we have enjoyed ? 10 visits, if not more here, and we plan to return later this year already.

This is our fifth stay on the lingholm estate and the third time we have stayed at Silverhill cottage for christmas.
Home from home so much so you forget you dont actually live here
All the comforts of home but in the peaceful tranquil setting of one of the most beautiful places in the lake district.
I dare you to come and find fault.
Thank you Lingholm.

This was our second visit to Lingholm and our second stay in the Swinside apartment.
Lingholm has been recently acquired, and it's new new hosts Jenny and Joe are everything you could hope for in hosts. Jenny was so friendly, she would have been welcome to come round every day for a chat and a brew.
Lingholm itself is a fantastic place to stay if you like to escape from the hustle and bustle of life, and you can feel like you are a million miles from anywhere, when in fact village or town life is only a short walk or drive away. The apartment we stayed is large, the master bedroom bed is huge, and the place feels like home (only better).

I'm writing this review with mixed feelings. On one hand I want everyone to know how amazing this place is, and on the other I want to keep it to ourselves and the select few who have already found it, and feel very protective about the place.

It won't be for everyone being remote, quiet and beautiful, but if you appreciate these things Lingholm can't fail to deliver.

Jenny and Joe have big plans for Lingholm, and if they feel the same about the place as I do, which I feel they do, this place is going to go from strength to strength, and i wish them every success with it. See you every year !

Hi Matt & Mandy,

Hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas. Thank you so much for taking the time to post a lovely review. It really does make all the hard work worth while when people enjoy staying here. We think the estate is very special and love sharing it with guests who appreciate it too.

We will make sure it doesn't lose any of its peacefulness and charm as we develop the estate.

We look forward to your next stay!

We have just returned from a stay at Lingholm Estate in Swinside apartment and already want to go back. The Lingholm estate is right next to Derwentwater and centres around a large Victorian country house within private woodland and gardens and even it's own shoreline. The apartment is part of the main house and is really with big airy rooms, huge bed and bath, high ceilings and a very well equipped modern kitchen and wifi which we found handy. In the living room a big bay window which has great views of the from of the estate lawn and woodland with the hills and mountains in the background. Jenny who runs the estate was really friendly and welcoming and made sure we knew she was there if we needed anything (which we didn't) although as the house is so big you don't get that feeling of staying at someone else's house or being in the way, it's all very private which we liked.
The private lake shore of Derwentwater is just a couple of minutes walk away and just feels so peaceful and secluded. The lake itself is outstandingly beautiful with breathtaking views from every angle which seem to take on a different character depending on the time of day and how much sunlight or mist is around. We saw lots of wildlife at Lingholm including robins, deer, plenty of pheasants and a very friendly cat! We can't wait to go back to this amazingly beautiful part of the Lake District and without a shadow of a doubt will choose stay at Lingholm again next time.
