“Great hosts and beautiful location”

We stayed here in July for a 2 night break. The room was very nice and spotlessly clean and the breakfast was one of the best I'd ever had! Clare and Craig are really friendly and welcoming, and always willing to give advice about local walks and activities. I just regret not having dinner there because if Claire's full English breakfast was anything to go by, the dinner must be amazing! I will next time! Portinscale is located within about a mile's walking distance of Keswick and is right on Derwent Water so a great choice of walks and water activities.

Just returned from a wonderful 2 night break at Dalegarth House. This really is a lovely place to stay. Our hosts Clare and Craig did a great job in making sure our stay was as perfect as possible. We had a lovely spacious room, spotlessly clean, plenty of light, a nice view of the fells and had some very thoughtful touches in the room. We booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and we are so glad we did as the food is fantastic. Clare and her mum do a great job in the kitchen and the menu was varied with plenty of choice. The village of Portinscale is very picturesque but if you want to go into Keswick you can take a scenic walk which takes around 20 minutes (highly recommended). We would have no hesitation in going back to Dalegarth and I am certain we will return in the future. A real gem in the Lakes.

My girlfriend and I booked 3 nights at Dalegarth House at the beginning of June 2013. Travelling over on saturday morning we arrived and went to ask if we could leave our car in the car park until check in time.

We were warmly greeted by Claire and taken into the lounge area, where tea and coffee were brought to us along with a slice of home made rasberry and white chocolate blondie. When we tried this cake we looked at each other and I think the debate we'd been having on the way over about whether or not to have our evening meal at the guesthouse was silently settled. The cake was to die for!

Craig let us know that our room was ready for us when we were. He then gave us a folder with local walks in it telling us that if we wanted a copy of any of them to let him know. After about an hour of very friendly conversation with our hosts, that included loads of really useful information about the local area, we were shown to our room.

We had booked the family room, for double occupancy as this was the only one available. The room itself was spotlessly clean, large with a verge big flat screen tv. The bed was firm and very comfortable and the view of the surrounding hills was wonderful.

The dining experience at this guesthouse was everything that initial cake had promised and more. The menu changes everyday, with a choice of 3 or more different dishes for each course. The menus are well thought out, catering for most tastes. There was, for example a meat dish, a fish dish and a vegitarian dish choice for starter and main courses everyday. Claire performs miracles in that kitchen (which, like the rest of the guest house is spotless), her meals are heaven on a plate, quite why Craig isn't the size of a house is beyond me! The only disappointment we had with any of the meals was our last evening meal and that was because we foolishly decided to eat eslewhere that night.

To summarise, Craig and Claire are wonderful hosts, nothing is too much trouble, they keep the guesthouse and it's grounds to a very high standard. They both take the time to chat to their guests and go out of their way to help them in anyway they can. We will definately be going back hopefully in November.

Room Tip: Family room is large sunny and with the sky light windows lovely and airy too!

The owners were lovely, very hospitable, knowledgeable and friendly, not to mention hard working! Our room in the annexe was really nice, spacious, clean and had everything we needed. There was a bit of noise from upstairs and also from a banging pipe, but nothing too awful! The guest house is really nice, in a good location about a 15 minute walk into Keswick where there are numerous rsstaurants and shops. We walked to do the Catbells climb from there too. Breakfast was really nice and the tea and cake on arrival a good touch too. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again in the future.

Stayed at this guest house for 2 days, the room was very clean, nice atmosphere and comfortable. Easy and nice walk to get there from the city centre.

Claire and Craig are really nice people. They have an excellent customer service, the day that we left it was raining a lot and Craig offered us to take us to the bus station by car, which we really appreciated, it was really nice from him.

The breakfast was excellent and enough before a long walk.

The only thing that I was a little bit disappointing was their wifi connection, which is not high speed, but well it was a good excuse to stay apart from technology and just have a nice weekend enjoying the great views that Keswick has.

Room Tip: Some rooms have better views, check it.

Another relaxing weekend at Dalegarth. Comfy large room. Lovely views. Friendly helpful owners and gorgeous food. Catering for veggies with imaginative dishes. So well located, very quiet yet central, just one mile from Keswick. Will be back!
