For our 5 year anniversary my husband arranged a surprise stay to the morritt arms. We had our wedding reception here so it was the perfect location. It is my favourite place!!! Whether you sit in their bar, lounge etc its a friendly and cozy experience. We had a few hours in the spa on location and then had a fantastic meal on the evening - everything was beautiful! All the staff were so professional and friendly. It's been five years since we stayed but we won't be leaving it that long for next time.
I would like to thank everyone involved with the surprise as you made it so special.

We spent two nights here whilst travelling around the Dales and the Lake District. On arrival we ordered tea and scones. The scones had obviously been put in the microwave and the fruit was burnt, not a good start! Although the bar food was reasonable the food in the restaurant left a lot to be desired, the same menu both nights with a limited choice. The first night I chose pork which I had to send back as it was almost raw. My husband had cheese instead of a pudding but this was charged as an extra as were all the vegetables.
The hotel is dark and dated and could do with a face lift.
On a positive note, all the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.
Although the hotel is well situated just off the A66 this does mean that the noise of the traffic can be heard in the bedrooms.
There is a pleasant garden where you can have pre dinner drinks or bar food in the good weather which we were fortunate to have.

Room Tip: Pay for the best room you can afford.

Comfortable room. Towels were a bit tired. Shower Gels etc in the bathroom were much better than the average. Food very good. Staff all excellent - very friendly and attentive. We were attending a family party. The food and service at the party could not be faulted

Overall a very enjoyable stay but the final bill left a bitter taste. The hotel charges £ 32.50 for 2 courses and £ 39.00 for 3 courses. My wife was a bit off colour and asked, would it be O.K. to just have a starter and pudding - duly delivered.
The bill showed £ 32.50 for this and upon questioning was confirmed as correct. Strictly speaking - yes, she had 2 courses; but ............... "buyer beware".

Room Tip: Stayed in "Brigit" very pleasant and bright

Our son was married in this beautiful hotel on 7th June what a fantastic experience. Well mannered polite and helpful staff. Every member of the serving staff get a tremendous pat on the back so professional in every way but pleaseant to talk to and made the whole experience very very enjoyable. We stayed over night our room was very clean and just a wonderful room to relax in. The Morritt Arms gets a huge 10 out of 10 from us.

We recently attended a wedding at the hotel which is in a rural setting at Greta Bridge. Although the busy A66 is not too far away there was no traffic noise noticeable inside the hotel or in the gardens in our experience. It’s a traditional styled place with modern extensions.

Car parking is to the front and side of the building with additional spaces alongside the approach road.

After the civil ceremony the 140 or so guests moved to the gardens to enjoy canapés and drinks whilst the room was made ready for the meal. A brass band were playing in the grounds and staff moved amongst the guests with trays of nibbles - rarebit, smoked salmon & caviar, goat’s cheese tarts and mini herb sausages with mash - all surprisingly hot despite the outside setting. Drinks were topped up very efficiently so the service could not be faulted.

Back indoors the mains course of lean beef with Yorkshire pudding and a selection of vegetables served silver service style was also delicious, followed by a tasty pavlova and berries then copious amounts of cheese and biscuits (the wedding “cake” was unusually made of a variety of cheese!).

The bar, just off to the side of the function room was well-manned to cater for a busy evening ahead with our generous hosts providing a free bar all night and when you add to this a very talented live band needless to say a good time was had by all!

There are a limited number of rooms within the hotel however those guests unable to stay had organised taxis and accommodation in a number of surrounding places - we ourselves managing to book the Coach House B&B which was within very easy walking distance.

Arrived late afternoon for a Spa, which was fantastic. The new building showed excellence and class. The staff in the spa were helpful and made it an enjoyable experience. feeling very relaxed, we then had a lovely glass of wine in the gardens before retiring for dinner. This was by far the best dining experience we have both had in memory. We have stayed in some gorgeous hotels in the UK and not one of them came close to the amazing high standard of food we had at The Morrit Hotel. We both had the Carpaccio to start, which came with bone marrow sprinkled over the top. We then had the monkfish wrapped in Parma ham......the best monkfish we have ever tasted. For dessert we had the chocolate cake, which melted in your mouth. This topped off with excellent service from the hotel staff has made this quick getaway one of the best experiences we have had. Would highly recommend to anyone.
