“Everything you could wish for”
Reviewed 14 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We hired all 3 gites between 3 families which was perfect. As we each had our own space in one of the fantastic gites which are very tastefully decorated, very comfortable, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you could possibly need. Then we had the large garden and pool to enjoy together. The pool and grounds are beautifully maintained too, as is the games room which was a huge hit with the older children with a pool table and table football and ping pong. The games room also had a large selection of board games, badminton racquets etc, basically everything you need to keep the children (and adults) fully entertained. If that isn't enough Buster the dog is always on hand, even the dog is perfect, so gentle and well behaved, the kids adored him. Jane and John were the prefect hosts (thank you so much for a fabulous week). I can not recommend LMG enough.

“Amazing Gites! Amazing Hosts!!”
Reviewed 21 August 2017 for a stay in July 2017

Please do not hesitate in booking your holiday at La Maison Grange. We have just returned home from a fabulous three weeks there and are already planning our return next year - in fact, had we known for certain that our dates would be agreeable with work we would have booked prior to departure. John and Jane are the most welcoming and generous of hosts - NOTHING is too much trouble for them and they really do go that extra mile to ensure that you have a great holiday. They work very hard to maintain La Maison Grange and it shows. The gites, patios, gardens, summer house, pool and BBQ area are kept absolutely spotlessly clean. The Gardens are particularly lovely with flowers everywhere. La Maison Grange is the most peaceful place on earth - there is no passing traffic save the odd hot air balloon, tractors in the fields of a neighbouring farm or the other guests coming and going yet it's only a 2 minutes drive from the main road and 5-10 minutes (max) drive to the nearest town, restaurants and supermarket (with petrol).

We stayed in the Van Gogh gite and were shown around the other two gites on change-over day. I can confirm that all three gites are of the same very high standard. Our gite was very charming with lots of oak sensitively restored and shown in all it's glory throughout the gite; nestled among the modern day decor. It works very well. Please do not waste your valuable boot space with "just in case" items. The gites are equipped with every good quality essential known to man - if it's not there you don't need it!!

We highly recommend the BBQ nights. They are held along with the Soirees in the rear garden overlooking fields where wild deer roam - you may even be lucky enough to see hot air balloons or birds of prey fly by. They are exceptional value for money, the food is delicious with beer/wine/soft drinks included. We attended 3 BBQ nights and enjoyed each one. John treated us to a curry on the barbie one week (I won't spoil it for you) but my husband has pinched this idea to try at home. Our 11 year old can be fussy but John and Jane always ensured that she was catered for on these nights and, in her opinion, John is the best "barbecuist" ever!! John and Jane host a very relaxed soiree on the Sunday evening. This is an excellent opportunity to meet John and Jane and the other guests over a glass of wine and some nibbles to exchange recommendations for days out etc. Once John and Jane know what you are looking for from your holiday they help you achieve it ie booking Wine Tasting tour, made land line enquiries at Hennessy Cognac when I couldn't open their website, booked a couple of restaurants for us etc. Please be assured that by no means are they "in your faces" but they are always happy to assist at the drop of a hat when approached.

The Summer house has full size table tennis, pool table and table football game. There are loads of board games, garden games and shelves full of DVD and books for your use - just return them to their place once finished. You will also find loads of leaflets here promoting local attractions which compliments the file in your gite listing restaurants, supermarkets, banks and such like.

There is a camp site nearby - 5 minute walk max - you can use the ammenities here for a small fee but we never did. There is no passing traffic or noise from this camp at all.

We drove from Calais to the gite. It is a shorter journey if you ferry to St Malo or Le Havre but my husband won't sail. It took us 10 hours of plodding along within the speed limit including 2 or 3 stops. We drove Calais, Rouen, Le Mans, Tours, Angouleme along the toll roads. It is a long journey but it is a very easy drive with lots of services/picnic areas en route and I personally believe that it's worth every minute to arrive somewhere as special as this.

Buster the dog also resides at La Maison Grange and what a wonderful dog he is too. John and Jane checked the boot of our car thoroughly before departure as Terry totally fell in love and threatened to dognap him. Buster very much knows his audience. He was a cheeky, playful chap with us but kept his distance from other guests who openly admitted to being nervous with dogs. Buster would come and say 'Hello' to us several times per day but NEVER entered the gite, he would stand on the doorstep poking his nose through the door and wag his tail to get our attention. Once he had a kiss or a pat he would trot off again til the next time. Our daughter adored him and she played ball with him for hours on end. She would also hand-feed him the odd treat and he was always very gentle - don't tell Jane as she has Buster on a diet ;-)

Apart from hanging around the pool, summer house and gardens we had days at:

St Emillion - wine tasting tour in the morning, lunch in the square, tuk tuk ride in the afternoon which was something a little different and our daughter loved it.

Brantome - we visited the caves at villars in the morning (would recommend) then to Brantome for lunch and walk around this beautiful village with lots of shops and riverside cafes. There is a river cruise available here and also canoeing. We didn't do either but loved watching the families row by.

Cognac. We love the town of Cognac. We always eat at Le Garage Bar. Great food, service and prices. We did the Henessy tour this year. We did Martel last year. Both tours are much the same. We both preferred the Martel tour last year but we don't know why.

Bordeaux - beautiful city with lots of shops, restaurants and things to see and do. We also went Go Karting and Ten Pin Bowling in Bordeaux - it was expensive but it was great fun and an excellent rainy day/end of holiday treat with a MacDonalds next door.

Aubterre sur Dronne - beautiful little artisan village with lots of independent boutiques and studios. There is an underground church here too which is pretty amazing. Gorgeous shaded square with several cafes to choose from.

Zoo at Royen - this took us about 1 hr 45 minutes. Good day out but we were exhausted by the end of it.

La Roque Gageac - long drive - good 1 1/2-2 hours - but well worth it - beautiful town with lots of places to eat and drink- cruised down the river to see the chateaux on the hillside - absolutely stunning. Canoeing available here - it was very popular - it was like the M25 but the flow of the river basically allows you to float downstream - all you need do is dip your oar in the river to steer!! There are lots of caves and prehistoric sites here if you wanted to see those on the same day. We ate tea at Perigueux on the way home.

Please do not hesitate in booking La Maison Grange for your next holiday. You will not be disappointed and who knows? Maybe we will meet you there next year!

“Wonderful holiday with John and Jane”
Reviewed 10 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

LMG is a perfect holiday location with plenty to do in the surrounding area, but just as nice to laze away the days round their lovely pool. The gites are very well equipped inside and out, with their own terrace. We had a fantastic holiday and would definitely recommend LMG for a holiday. John and Jane couldn't have been nicer hosts and nothing was too much to ask.

“Delightful and welcoming retreat in rural Dordogne”
Reviewed 3 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We spent a wonderful week here in the middle of August. The gite was very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. The pool was appreciated by all of us and is of a good size as well as being close to the gites so ideal for keeping an eye on the kids. The hosts John and Jane are lovely and make a special effort to bring the guests together. We particularly enjoyed the BBQ evening they laid on. All in all we couldn't really have asked for more.

“Exceeds expectations in so many ways”
Reviewed 18 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Just back from a wonderful week at La Maison Grange. Not my first stay and it won't be my last. Previously it has been with my family but this was a sneaky week on my own to recharge the batteries. John and Jane, the owners, very successfully manage to make you feel that the place is your own but are readily available to help with local knowledge and advice. They are generous and wise in their hospitality. I stayed in 'Renoir' this time - it's comfortable and well furnished with every resource that you might need. It is a joy to have the pool on your doorstep. There are many beautiful and interesting small towns within easy reach - in 'the season' the night market at Le Pizou is a visit not to be missed and the buzz in the popular wine towns is lovely. My stay was in September - things were a bit quieter. Horses for courses - I love both. Most of all, I love it that there are no disappointments when I stay at La Maison Grange.

“very peaceful and relaxing holiday”
Reviewed 8 December 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We stayed here in July 2013 and rented 2 gites. Area is very safe and relaxing, children could play happily with no worries. Pool area was very clean and extremely safe, attention to detail was magnificent, with fenced locked gate to pool as well as pool alarm! Gites were very homely, everything you would possiblty need in your home. Wifi connection was fast, lots of english tv channels to utilise for early child risers including cbeebies! Jane and john were great hosts, nothing was too much trouble for them and they were always on hand when needed. Free range eggs for breakfast was a bonus! Lidl supermarket 5 minute drive down the road for fresh bread and essentials for the bbq. Closed on sundays however. Would definitely recommend staying here for a very relaxing break!
