“lovely gem in the Jura”
Reviewed 27 September 2012

We were on a walking holiday in the Jura and le Tillau was our next stop. As we came out of the woods we could see this charming challet, with gerainiums hanging over the balcony, nestling down the bottom of the pasture. We had a warm welcome and I managed to make myself understood with my broken french. We booked in for two nights here as it was such a nice location and we could do circular walks from here. Unfortunately, my husband had eaten something bad at the previous hotel which meant that he stayed in bed all the following day. This was a shame as the evening meals were very good and hubby was not well enough to eat them or breakfast. Breakfast was also one of the best for selection that we had so far had during that week. The chef even made a vegetable soup specially for my husband. The trout was very tasty and a good selection of local cheeses. I do not ski but if I did I would be very happy staying here in the winter as the rooms were a good size and the en suite was clean and well stocked for a good shower and hair wash. We should have done a 21k walk on the day we left but hubby was too weak. The owner kindly drove us to our next hotel in Switzerland. What good service!

Room Tip: They has a fitness centre that others were using, but we did not use it ourselves.

A small and very friendly hotel on a quiet, isolated hill-top. Ideal base for a walking break or an over-night stop. Restful grounds where you can hear the cows'bells as they graze in the fields surrounding the hotel while you have a drink before dinner. Beautiful views all around. Dinner was a four-course set meal - absolutely delicious! Never seen my wife clear her plate for all 4 courses before! Room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a small balcony.

This small hotel is set in a beautiful location surrounded by great walking country (and no doubt excellent for winter activities as well). It has a traditional but comfortable dining area with good food and wine at reasonable prices. The room was large and comfortable. It's not a luxurious hotel but it is ideal for those who love the outdoors. We were here for one night but you could easily spend a few nights here as a base for hiking and it's close to the Chateau de Joux, absinthe distillery & Pontarlier. The welcome was friendly and it's a very reaxing place to stay with a pleasant area to sit outside to have a drink. There's a small gym, sauna and boules pit for active relaxation.
