Can't believe the last review. Just been to this pub after being recommended by friends. What a nice traditional, cosy, friendly pub this is. Yes, there are no jukeboxes or cask ales but the food is all homemade, locally sourced and cooked to perfection. The staff are lovely - we were served by Adele. The choice is amazing and the service quick. This a proper old style pub. There are no fancy images or bright colours - the decor is traditional and comfortable. I eat out all over the north east and I am always very honest in my opinion of food good and bad. I also dislike poorly written inaccurate reviews. Visit this pub with confidence if you like traditional home made good, service and value you won't be disappointed!!!

Worst food I've had for ages; everything overcooked. No real ale. Waitresses nice but no atmosphere. Will not be back.

We haven't been to The Hobson for sometimeand knew that the owner had changed but didn't know if the standard had changed but it was my Dad's birthday and we reserved a table to celebrate.
We weren't disappointed with the food being as good as ever. A selection of roasts was accompanied by more than enough vegetables and the biggest Yorkshire Puddings I've seen for some time.
For those who don't want as big a meal they do half portions as well. We had a 3 year old and they provided a plate for her so we could give her just what she would not be overwhelmed by. She followed this up with a bowl of ice cream.
The staff are really friendly and helpful as usual and we knew some from several years ago so there is not a large turnover.
Being a birthday celebration we took a birthday cake. They provided plates, serviettes and even a lighter for the candles. One of the staff even took a slice for later.
With reasonably priced drinks as well it is a great place to have Sunday Dinner although it does get busy so best to reserve.
The menu for the rest of the week was on a board on the wall and looked like a really good variety with several vegetarian options, something you don't always get at other places.
