We frequently visit this hotel and have done so over many years. They yearly have many special events weekends to suit every one. Many of the main staff have remained with the organization for a lot of years and always greet you as a returning customer. The service is excellent and its location by the Lancaster canal is such a bonus to young and old alike. The kitchen wherever possible will hand out goody bags to children to feed the ducks and swans and other species of wildfowl. The food in both 'Owd Nell's' and the main restaurant suits everyone and many tastes are catered for. The main restaurant is mainly Italian with delicious flavours and some staff hail from Italy too. Accommodation is spacious and comfortable and improvements are 'work in progress. Other facilities on site include a full size cricket pitch and crown green bowls where being a spectator can pass many pleasant moments. The whole hamlet is hub to many local visitors who obviously enjoy the attraction and services on offer. Close by in Bilsborrow is Barton grange garden centre which has been voted the best establishment of its type in the UK and I would entirely agree with that, there is something to interest everyone who visits with a beautiful spacious café and restaurant if you wish too.

Room Tip: Rooms nearest the canal are preferable.

Been there today for lunch, it was terrible. Place not clean, food dreadful, had to return drinks as the coke was flat. Wasps everywhere as the upstairs outdoor seating where we were sat was full of old napkins and old food on the floor. Young staff that were away with the fairies, no interest at all. The best thing you can do is avoided this place at all costs.

I have stayed here once before a few years ago with my partner & it was lovely, however, myself & 3 girlfriends booked in for the Cider Festival which was good although considering it was a cider festival you could only sample 1 brand of cider out of all the ones on sale but it didn't deter us from trying out new flavours although it made it quite expensive if you bought one you didn't like!
My review is mainly about the room which was supposed to be an "executive" room at £75 for the night.
On entering we found a very spacious room with twin beds & a sofa while the bathroom was so tiny the sink was in the bedroom! It was so small you had to be careful not to burn your arm on the towel rail (which was very hot) when you were sat on the toilet. as for the little touches you would expect from an "executive" room they were non existent. There were two tiny bottles of toiletries, no shower cap & no other toiletries at all.
As for the hospitality tray, all that was provided were a couple of tea bags, some coffee & milk & sugar. Now I'm sorry but that just isn't good enough for an "executive" room.
We assumed at this price breakfast would be included this would have made it a little more bearable for the price but alas it wasn't.
On mentioning our disappointment at reception we were told of all the little extra's in the other "executive" rooms but please how does that help us! When we expressed our concerns we were told to email our complaints we weren't even offered breakfast, customer service ? I think not.
Guys is in a beautiful setting, but please before you book make sure you find out what facilities are included in the price.

Just had a lunch time meal in the Italian restaurant at Guys Thatched Hamlet and it was excellent both quality and value for money. The cost for a two course meal is £7.95 at lunch time Monday to Saturday. We had lunch with our friends so there was 4 of us and the cost (including drinks) was £40. Very nice.

We stayed here to meet a business colleague. We had a Jacuzzi suite which I wasn't keen on because it was a) open-plan and b) there was no ventilation in the toilet. The bathroom was brand new however. Large king size bed which was comfortable and rooms were quiet but no Wi-Fi reception as quite a distance from bar area.
We hired the conference room above the pizzeria and it was great for our purpose. Service was excellent by the staff. We had a lovely evening meal the night before in the Italian. If we stayed again we'd ask for a regular double room. In a lovely setting.

Room Tip: Depends on your preference.

Having read a few negative reviews we had booked a Friday night and the day could not be faulted. Check in was smooth and the large car parks ensured no looking for a space. The room was fine and clean and even though near the bar area there was no noise in the room. The place has a bar food area as well as a restaurant. We went for the restaurant and it was excellent. Service was very good and the food could not be faulted. The steak was cooked to perfection and good quality, my partners swordfish tasty and plenty of it. The bar area after the meal had plenty of staff ensuring quick service. Guys is situated next to the canal and it's a lovely walk if you want to pass a little time. I will return and hopefully have another sunny day.
