The Breath Spa really catered to our needs today to celebrate a birthday celebration! The service from Vaida was outstanding as she made us feel so welcome and catered to our every need. We will definitely be back!

Lingfield - Marriott - Hotel review - Friday and Saturday Nights of 25th and 26th August 2017

Conclusion

Adding the conclusion at the top in order to show a summary of my thoughts in case you do not wish to read the details below for quick and easy summary.

Great location and good facilities given the 4 star rating, you also have a golf course but not sure if this is included. The pool and gym are.

Friendly staff and would make an ideal weekend getaway.

Although only one bar and one resturant i am told there are a number of restaurants only 5-10mins by car in the local village

Quiet location and great surroundings but loud AC and not everything works.

I would however be more than happy to go back.

If you are staying Friday and Sat night they do double the charge on the Sat so comes in around £300 per room for the Friday and Sat. Beware of the loud AC fans though.

Booking

1. Ease of booking - Easy online booking and confirmation
2. Easy quick responses from hotel - I did call and found the staff to be a bit rude so was not a good start.
3. Ease to get early check in and check out and get answers to questions - Not an easy process and we did ask for a late check on on the day and was given one hour later so rather than 12 noon was offered 1pm on one of our two rooms after trying and informed can’t really do anything as they are fully booked. This is a wedding venue hotel but i don’t think they are being 100% honest as we knew the wedding party before and after
4. Score - 6/10 - Could do better and be more friendly

Parking

1. Ease to find - GPS Took us right there and there is a sign by the entrance which is straight forward, bear in mind the roads going to the hotel are not lit and small and have a 40MPH seed limit so do bear this in mind.
2. Any charges - Free but sign posted as golf course parking, there is also ample disabled parking around the hotel entrance.
3. Secure- barrier, lights, cctv - not secure and no barriers and could not see signs of lights or CCTV
4. Distance from hotel - walking distance within the hotel grounds
5. Score - 8/10 as plenty of space.

Lobby

1. Design - small but modern
2. Clean - looked clean on arrival
3. Score - 6/10 - it is small hence the lower score

Check-in

1. Time to check-in - straight forward process and they knew who we were
2. Ease of check-in - easy process to check in as you also get an email and can check in via the app
3. Room ready - both rooms ready on our arrival at 4pm which was good.
4. Alarm wake up call offered - Yes offered
5. Newspaper request offered - Yes offered but chargeable but we did not actually get the papers we requested so i would not rely on this
6. Facilities and locations explained - services explained and health spa staff walked us around which was great.
7. Help with luggage - help offered and luggage trolley provided.
8. Friendliness of staff - staff generally very friendly and approachable.
9. Correct booking details and rate - Yes all correct
10. Score - 8/10 easy process and quick

Room

1. Secure - standard key card access
2. Appearance / Decor - modern and well designed but have stayed in better but given the rating it was well presented.
3. Clean - clean but do check the bathroom UV photos and mattress protector photos.
4. Facilities offered (safe, mini bar, iron and board.) - Safe, mini bar (Empty) and iron and board all provided as well as tea and coffee facilities. So all the facilities you would expect from a 5 star are provided and this is only a 4 star rated hotel. I do like the fact you get an empty mini bar as you can store your own drinks this way.
5. UV issues - Yes issues on lampshade, mattress protector and bathroom issues found. Management acted quickly on the mattress protector however did not clean the other issues. But i was little surprised housekeeping was ok using stained mattress protectors. Management however very apologetic and did change the protector within 5-10mins. Was not offered anything however as goodwill which shows lack of a little customer care.
6. Free internet and speed - Free internet. Download 15.18 Mbps - Upload 14.73 Mbps
7. Comfort of bed (Mattress) and pillows - Soft pillows and lumpy mattress protector but i was fine with it.
8. Temp control ac and/or fan and noise levels. Very hot during our stay in terms of outside temperature and room comes with AC and after a few hours the room did cool down but the AC fan is so loud you have to be used to it.
9. Noise levels of guests at night - quiet hotel as the venue hall is 5mins walk from the hotel so far enough away to avoid any party noise.
10. Room size - good room size
11. Blackout curtain scale - blackout curtains provided but cut too short so you get a lot of light leakage at the bottom so you may be woken by light coming through in the mornings as i was.
12. Maintenance issue - Did find lamp out and reported and fixed within no time.
13. Decor - Clean and modern design
14. Tv and channels - movies channels which you pay for a you would get on sky store or iTunes and some of the main channels but not a high range and not HD.
15. Score - 7/10 - good views and location

Ensuite

1. Size - small for the cost of the rooms and just a shower in our room and not offered a choice at check in or during the booking.
2. Facilities (bath/shower, shaver, lights, towels, toiletries, shaver mirror, Anti-fog mirror) - Shaver socket, shower only, towels and toiletries provided but mirror was not anti fog which is a shame and no robes provided which is strange for a hotel with a pool and spa.
3. Water pressure on taps and shower - medium to high pressure
4. UV issues - small UV issues by the usual areas.
5. Toiletries quality - seem to be good and full range provided.
6. Score - 7.5/10 - good modern design and well specified.

Breakfast - I did not have breakfast so cannot comment although i was told it was good.

1. Quality - N/A
2. Queue - There was a lot of people
3. Variety - N/A
4. Score - N/A

Lunch/Dinner/Bar

1. Quality - Went for dinner in the resturant which has a small menu and not much selection for vegetarians but the food was good and will do a separate review on this with photos. Lunch and all day bar menu is more basic but does offer more choice but the quality is more bar/pub style. The bar although fully stocked does not have any cocktails but the bar staff will be happy to make anything you ask just the time we went they did not have fresh orange juice.
2. Queue
3. Variety
4. Score

Facilities

1. Facilities offered and their quality, opening times - 24hour gym with swimming area open till 9pm. Spa facilities also as well as bar and resturant.
2. Score - 7/10 as only one bar and resturant but still good for a weekend break

Other issues

1. Any issues reported and time taken to deal with it? Mattress marks were dealt as was the bulb replacement but not the minor cleaning and also the Ice machine in hall did not work and i think there are some minor issues with the hotel that do need to be addressed. The local hospital is around 15-25mins away and it does not seem you will get an ambulance so be prepared to drive. Finally there are not many cab firms willing to come out to the hotel due to its location so no Uber so do plan ahead as the hotel taxi service is double the charge of the Uber quote (even though you cannot get uber)

Check-out

1. Time to check-out - 12noon normal and 1pm late check out
2. Ease of check-out - easy and accurate
3. Late check out easily offered and given - not easy and only one hour difference.
4. Help with luggage - offered
5. Friendliness of staff - friendly and no problems to report.
6. Score - 7.5/10 maybe even higher given this is a 4 star hotel so great for the rating but they do charge close to a 5 star.

I hope you like this check list approach and do let me know what else you would like to see added or removed so i can provide a consistent approach to all hotel reviews for ease of comparison.

Room Tip: Great views of golf course or racecourse if you request it and some rooms on 3rd floor with balconies.

Recommend if you do not like airport hotels. This hotel was 20 minutes from Gatwick. Dinner ok. Hotel desperately needs refurbishing. But overall clean. Less busy than normal airport hotels. Staff good.

Juts returned from two nights and a Wednesday race meeting. Superb setting, easy parking and also easy to find.
Great welcome to the family, including my son.
Used the swimming pool three times - clean and not too busy (next to spa and gym). Golf course and race course join the hotel. Had long walks through the golf course - no problem as long as you watch for golf players. Met a few local runners and dog walkers (and a couple of horse riders in the woods) - everyone was really friendly.

Food and bar provide super food (perhaps a little fan for my son) - priced slightly on the high side.

Our room that we chose included a balcony, which was worth it - spent time looking out over the first tee and driving range as well as the race course - fantastic.

Only reason I didn't give the hotel '5 stars' was the beds were very soft and not comfortable - my wife and i kept rolling into the centre and it didn't provide enough support so we both woke with slightly sore backs. The pillows were fine as was the cupboard space, facilities and the bathroom. (perhaps this was a one off so we didn't refer it to the staff)

Racing is right next door and there is a link passage to the grandstand facilities next door, which was super as it was tipping down with rain later in the day.

All round a great stay and we look forward to returning next year.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the race course are excellent. Recommend upgrading to a room with a balcony

Nice hotel, good facilities, great views from the restaurant and bar of the racecourse (and some of the rooms).

Staff were very good, especially the breakfast staff who were very attentive.

Nice pool area (not supervised).

Rooms were of a good size and cleaned to a good standard.

Overall a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the racecourse.
