Description: You don’t need to get on a flight to get away from the Big Smoke. We’re less than an hour’s journey from London Victoria. Haven. Oasis. Retreat. Sanctuary. Hideaway. Pick a word - they’re all fit to describe The Wiremill, our award-winning lakeside pub. A home away from home, it’s the people who make this place. Of course, the delicious cooking - homemade, locally sourced, beautiful food - & incredible views don’t hurt. Come in with family & friends, or just make some new ones when you get here. Alternatively, do what big boss Tim does - plonk yourself down in the sunshine & ponder life's mysteries whilst you sip on a cappuccino. You don’t need to go home, book a stay in our boutique hotel. Our rooms have huge beds and fluffy pillows!

This is a review of pub/restaurant , not hotel

The sign said fabulous food - actually just ordinary pub food. Nothing wrong with that though. On a waterskiing lake, down a narrow badly maintained lane a place to visit once if you in the area, and maybe more if you live locally. A few too many bugs around the lake around dusk?

Worst Sunday lunch I've ever eaten and totally overpriced. Cold chunks of fatty lamb and that includes the beef ,awful dry roast potatoes raw veg,dry very dry to the point of stale yorkshire pudding all served stacked in a tower formation in a river of what I can only describe as dishwater....presented at room temperature .I can forgive one item being a little off key but whole plates of food to be so badly done takes a special kind of untrained uncaring kitchen. We are locals and have eat here many times and its always been hit and miss bit this is the last time until they sort the place out.The location is truly a beautiful spot looking over the lake but starting to feel run down with uncaring staff and not bothered attitude. Go for a drink and enjoy he view ,then go and eat somewhere else AVOID THE FOOD

Ok, we made two booking at two different stages, but asked our booking for 4 and the extra 5 who now wanted to be placed together under same lead name. No one read the notes requesting this on the booking form, so they wanted us on two tables, but they did reorganise it to one.

Now as we sat down, we were told at 5.30pm ALL Sunday meals had gone, even though they were accepting late bookings than ours.
While they sent a email note to pre-order but our group wanted to be flexible on the day. No where did it warn you, YOU had to pre-order to guarantee food! Surely a restaurant can gauge how many dinners on a busy day. and after all Sunday Roasts.
The 9 of us left flat as this is why we came here for Sunday roast!
Now we had to consider whether to leave or grab an alternative, and how confusing in the menu pricing??
We should have finished our drinks and gone!!
Five ordered Bangers and Mash, Two Fish, Two Burgers, not really anything like a Sunday roast!! Yes they were busy and seemed to a young enthusiastic team.
Next one person comes back and says "only got 3 Bangers & Mash", so two change to ribs... Then they came back again, now we only have two Bangers & Mash, so one decides on fish.
50 mins later food comes out. Fish is small 3 times the size of ones fork. One Chickens Burger is like rubber, Where was the mash with Bangers & Mash.. ok a small amount under the sausages.. where was the parsnips .. ok we shall get them.... Ribs are dry and need for more sauce which you need to ask for
One of meals doesn't come out. he asks where is it, out comes a cold plate of fish! Manager is called for and someone comes, he did try to help.

Two New meals are ordered, he doesn't want the fish (seen how small it is and the cold fish has put him off), has ribs, and another chicken burger is being prepared. Of course the other 7 have eaten, but no one is impressed. New food comes out, cold chips re heated with burnt taste. More chips are brought out, now they are good and hot!!
Give them their due, they accepted the fish portions were small and gave a price reduction, two meals were given free.
Great location and has the ingredients but let down by the basics.

Nine new people were looking forward to eating here, all nine will never return and as we were part of a committee that is planning something local, they will loose lots of potential guests we were hoping to recommend....

Reading the last few comments on here, says this place has got to step back and see what people are saying!! Then make improvements or this potential great place will go quiet!! and whose fault will that be!!

We booked this pub for Father’s Day lunch, a couple of days before our booking we received an e-mail informing us we would have to prebook our lunch and were sent a link to the menu and ordering page, we were not notified of this at the time of booking.
The webpage was not easy to complete.
On arriving at the restaurant on the actual day we were regretting our preordered choices and asked if we were able change our order, but unfortunately we weren’t, leaving us feeling quite unsatisfied with our lunch.
I don’t think we would return if we had to preorder again, preferring to make our choices at the time of eating.

The Wiremill is signposted from the main road. It is hidden away behind houses and is in a great location. It backs onto a lake which is used by water skiers.
We went for lunch but did not arrive until 2ish. It was a sunny day and very busy. We did not want to wait for the ‘maybe an hour’ for a main course and opted for sandwiches. Theses were very good and came with a generous portion of chips. The fillings are also imaginative. It was enjoyable.
The service was good and we managed to find a table overlooking the lake. We managed to ignore a group of rowdy dinners who came outside for a ‘between course smoke’. I think this was just bad luck.
There were a couple of downsides - the toilets are tucked away downstairs with ridiculously low ceilings and the exterior wooden furniture looked as if it were some while since it was cleaned.
