We’ve just returned from a very enjoyable day out at the British Wildlife Centre.

We found the best way to see the animals if to follow the keepers talks which happen every half-hour. The animals seem to know when they’re going to happen and come over – even the Red Deer who, before the talk started where quite some distance away. The Hedgehog talk was great fun for all the kids with the opportunity to see them up close – and the aptly named ‘Turbo’ proving that they can move quite quickly when they want to.

At the time of our visit the owl and kestrel enclosures were being refurbished – but we did get the chance to see a Long Eared Owl which was being shown around by a keeper.

A big thank you should also go to the keepers who not only appear very knowledgeable about all the animals – but also appear to be very enthusiastic; which all adds up to the making the centre a delightful place to visit.

We shall certainly be returning again.

This had been on my places to visit for some time. now I have been I can see many repeat visits looming. The overhead animal runs are brilliant. The Pine Martins were not seen in their enclosure, then while watching the Owl display, a Pine Martin appeared in one of the overhead runs! The keeper giving the talk was very knowledgeable and presented it very well.

Well worth a visit if you have not been before.

We visited the British Wildlife Centre on a beautiful day in March. We have visited once before so made sure to get there as the centre opened to make the most of all the keeper talks. This was a great strategy as it allowed us to make the most of our day and get great views of most of the animals and hear more about them from the knowledgeable and enthusiastic keepers. When we arrived we made our way straight to the red squirrel walk through enclosure where a very friendly little squirrel was straight over to investigate us and dart over my bag and round my legs. It was amazing to get do close to one of these beautiful animals. We went to all the talks during the day, apart from the couple of repeat talks about some of the animals. This gave us chance to explore the wetland area and the hedgerow, to see all the smaller animals. Although the owl enclosures are being refurbished the keepers brought owls out regularly during the day for visitors to see close up and we topped off our day watching the owls flying, which was fab! Our highlights were the red squirrels, Toby the badger having a bath, a sleepy polecat stretching and the tiny field mice. We stayed from when the centre opened until just before it closed for the day. With all the talks and the range of animals to see the centre is great value for money. All the animals looked really well looked after, the enclosures were all clean and tidy, although the deer field is understandably a little muddy at present. A visit is highly recommended.

i have been to the british wildlife center a number of times, they do a special photo day,( which i have now done twice),all though it costs more you get a brilliant service with just a small group of you actualy going ito some of the enclosures for real close ups with out any netting upsetting your shots. now i have a good stock of photoes to use for my photo club competitions.
This venue is also a good place to take the kids to show them wildlife you just would not see normaly. red squirels beng just one.
i just have to go back again and again.

We had a lovely day here, the weather helped. This attraction is set up so well you can see the animals in their natural habitat. I loved the tiny harvest mouse and playful otters. There are talks every half an hour by knowledgeable obliging staff. There is plenty of seating and space for picnics. The cafe is a little limited on food but our jacket potato was delicious . I wish we had something like this near by as it's fascinating.
