I recently stayed at the Asia Airport Don Muang Hotel for one night as alternative accommodation when the Amari Don Muang had defaulted on my Agoda.com booking and left me in the night with no accommodation.
The Asia Airport Don Muang Hotel is only 10-15 minutes from the Don Muang airport by taxi, though roughly half of this time is taken up by simply getting onto the correct route through the maze of underpasses and overpasses of the motorway; in short, it is very close! The taxi fare is around 60 baht ($2) though this may be a little more in heavy traffic.
The Asia Airport Don Muang Hotel occupies the 10th – 18th floors of the building with reception on the 10th floor. The ladies at the reception desk spoke good English and the check-in procedure was very efficient.
My room was very clean and quite comfortable, costing 1,400 baht. It had TV, internet (not free), tea & coffee facilities, a safe, a small balcony and adequate lighting. The bathroom was a little tired in presentation but the water pressure was good and hot water was plentiful. The usual bathroom amenities were supplied free of charge. The only negatives were a slightly noisy aircon unit and I would have preferred a slightly softer bed. Regardless, I had a very good night’s sleep. At about $45, the cost was in the mid to upper range for Bangkok hotels of this style and location, but is much better value than the Amari Don Muang (refer to my review of the latter).
I was only there for one night so I did not use the hotel’s swimming pool area but I noticed that it was clean and well maintained.
I booked a bed & breakfast package and found the breakfast cafe to be very pleasant. The buffet breakfast was standard for Thai hotels, with most hot dishes being rice or noodle based, though eggs (fried and scrambled), ham, sausages, etc were also present. Fresh fruit, salads, breakfast cereals, breads and pastries, fruit juices and tea/coffee were also available. In short, a typical Thai buffet breakfast with something for all tastes.
For those wishing to eat elsewhere, there is a large shopping centre adjacent to the hotel where small restaurants and eateries offer mostly Asian cuisine. There is also a McDonald’s about 2 minute’s walk away from the hotel entrance.
This hotel would not be my choice for a holiday or business trip because of its location relative to the city area but in future trips to Bangkok when I need to stay overnight near the Don Muang Airport, I will skip the woeful Amari Hotel and use the Asia Airport Hotel very time. Highly recommended.
