Wakeboarding Thailand Camp
Reviewed 30 March 2013

My trip in dec 2012 was my 3rd to Thailand to go to a wake camp. My previous 2 camps were fun but I found the level of coaching was poor some coaches were more bothered about looking cool and calling everyone dude. I was told by a friend that deans style of coaching was 'old school' as he's been involved in the sport since day one. I'd describe deans style of coaching as the best I've ever had. Any one can drive a boat not anyone can coach. My visit was the first time I'd ridden following knee surgery and dean was quick to put the confidence back in my knee and get rid of my fears by changing my ride style and landing. Dean has an excellent understanding of sports psychology and uses it well in his coaching. He's a very positive person and riders push themselves to achieve new tricks confident that the coach will be there whether you land it and get a thumbs up or have a big crash.
Sarah is like mother hen. She takes care of everything else you need and keeps the camp running smoothly. The bungalows are back to basic which I really liked but if you want hot showers sky tv and room service this may not be the place for you. This is a place for riders to live the dream on a massive lake of water. You can ride for 5 mins without the boat turning, you won't get that at many other places!

Shamballa Wakeboarding Thailand Camp is an unforgettable experience. We decided to spend a week relaxing at Shamballa after a number of recommendations from friends. Our plan - to relax, unwind and improve our wakeboarding skills. We achieved this and more.

2hrs from Bangkok airport, we went from main road, to single lane, to a dirt track surrounded by rows of eucalyptus trees. As the sun set, the rustic bungalows appeared through the trees - we knew we had we arrived at Shamballa. The owners, Sarah and Deen (and the family dogs) gave us a warm welcome. With a delicious cocktail in hand (Banana daquiri - mmm), relaxing on the verandah overlooking the glassy resevoir, fire burning and great conversation, we felt completely at home. We had definitely made a great choice.

The accomodation - 6 rustic style wooden bungalows, with great views of the resevoir. Minimally designed, with a very comfortable 4 poster bed surrounded by mosquito net, ensured you would fall asleep in seconds after a hard day on the water.

We woke up to a delicious breakfast, from a choice of Chef Pars Thai specialities, before hitting the water. Relaxing in the afternoon with a book, chatting...or more watersports if you can manage it. Of course more delicious Thai food...and do not forget the massage. So reasonably priced, you have no excuse to miss out on this amazing, relaxing experience every day!! Before sunset, hit the water again, if you want to burn off a few more calories before dinner!

Wakeboarding coaching was amazing. With some simple tips and perseverance, I learnt more in a week that I had in 2 years at home. I just wish I was a bit fitter! Did I mention the massage?

Combine an amazing day on the water, wiping out, learning new tricks, relaxing afternoons, cocktails at sunset, delicious Thai food, amazing company and even a pork spit roast around the fire...what more can you ask for? Whatever you feel like doing, just ask and it can be arranged. Trips to Pattaya or nearby islands are an option if you want to do something different, although I suspect you will not want to leave the resort.

Shamballa offer wakeboarding, waterskiing, wake surfing, wakes skating, stand up paddle boarding and lots more. It is a watersport lovers heaven.

I would highly recommend Shamballa, Wakeboarding Thailand. We will definitely be back...
