We knew it was something special when the S-class mercedes arrived to collect us from the disappointing Sarojin for the 25mins drive here.. Thank goodness my wife chose this as our last stop. If we had finished with the Sarojin then we would have been very sad...

Instead we were treated to the wonderful Wanakarn. It is in another league to most of the other luxury resorts. (Note this place is part of Relais & Chateaux so does have various quality processes/inspections...and it shows)

Only opened for a few years... This explains the smaller number of reviews on TripAdvisor. It's also smaller than most resorts and I suspect most of the high-end guests coming here are not the type to contribute to TripAdvisor!

Only 15 villas... so it's very quiet. We had the soft white sand beach to ourselves for 3 days. Not a single guest joined us... It was amazing to have 20kms of beach all to yourself.

Food was outstanding. The chef (young Thai lady, trained in London five-staf hotels) is a real asset. Tell her what you like/don't like and she will design a special menu just for you.

Wine/drinks were good value. Many resorts are completely overpriced but here good drinkable everyday wines start at £20 a bottle..

Rooms were very well-equipped. Good layout. Private plunge pools. Smart bathroom, dressing area meant you could hide all your luggage from view.

Management: Fröde, the Norwegian manager was very friendly and chatty. Extremely helpful. He even fixed our missing passport papers so we had no hassles at airport. That really was beyond the call of duty.

Staff: Mainly locals who are really proud/enthusiastic to work here. Lots of genuine smiles and helpfulness.

NEGATIVES (very minor):
- Korean honeymooners... This place has a lot of Korean honeymoon guests... good business for the resort. These young couples are no trouble, keep themselves to themselves but sometimes the restaurant can resemble a college canteen with lots of Facebook photos being taken.... Eat later and you will have the restaurant to yourself.
- Loved the live music. The jazz saxophonist was amazing but the band (on other nights) can become repetitive. Need to vary the playlist or have a few nights off...
- Riptides... Can be strong tides in the sea but hotel has a large pontoon area for safe swimming...
- Decking... the poolside decking was terrible with varnish peeling everywhere. Needs a good rub down and teak oil!
- Spa... We didn't use it. Had heard it was a little too small and it's not run by the hotel staff. Needs to be better integrated into the visitor experience.

WHO'S IT FOR? This is an upmarket (but informal) luxury retreat destination. Don't come here if you want to party, explore, shop or dress up... but do come here if you want to relax, unwind, and be absolutely pampered! Lots of return customers, royalty, Hollywood etc...

It was the perfect destination to finish our honeymoon in Thailand.

Recommend: Yes... to everyone
Return visit: Already in the pipeline!

Room Tip: There isn't a dud villa. All fifteen are private, secluded and well-appointed.

Before heading to Thailand, we researched a lot of great hotels to stay in. We decided to book The Wanakarn Beach Resort (have a look at the Relais et Chateau Hotels) for 6 nights which was definitely the best decision we might have made. Highlights of our stay were the privacy, the marvelous beach and the fantastic food. The staff here is very friendly and genuinely interested in you and providing you with the best service possible. The location of The Wan
akarn was great, nice, quiet and close to the sea with excellent security at the entrance to the property and all around the grounds.

There are only 15 villas situated in an astoundingly beautiful scenery. The rooms are beyond fabulous. Private infinity pool with a sunken day bed, gorgeous bathroom with in and outdoor shower and one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in while being in Thailand. The resort has thought of everything to satisfy your every need - from an iPod dock to the pillow menu.

We very much enjoyed the beach. I’ve never seen a beach so deserted. Miles of white sand and salty warm water some fishermen and you! Just beautiful!

Breakfast at the restaurant was always delicious. A wide selection of western and Thai style breakfasts, can't forget to mention the view from the restaurant....simply stunning.

As the Wanakarn is a real hidden treasure, there are no possibilities to find other restaurant to dine out. But this is no problem due to the excellent chef! As we didn’t like to order every day from the menu card she surprised us with her own menus. Her
dishes are a highly creative fusion between Western and Thai cuisine!
The menus are pricy but more than worth!

We appreciated that the very friendly GM came over to visit us and took the time to talk to us. We felt very welcomed and it feels quite familiar. His attitude makes this place so special and unforgettable.

After 3 weeks of stressful trip through Asia, we spent 4 days in this wonderful, silent, peacefull and fine establishment called Wanakarn! We enjoyed our little but big enough private pool at our tastefully decorated villa, listening to chirping little birds, eating delicious food - yes, we found our paradise!
There is just one restaurant, but whatever you order, they have it! Starting with a Champaign (Veuve Clicquot, Moet,...) breakfast in the morning and finish with tasty lobster in the evening, even a hamburger for our son they could prepare ... .
The sea was a bit roughly in July (due to rain season), but in this week we had not even one second rain and could walk along the white sandy beach - perfect!
Wifi, Internet is free of charge, daily fresh fruits in the villa, free coffee and tea in the room, very friendly staff in the whole resort, bicycles are parking in front of the villa, elegant limo for transporation to the airport....
Thank you Wanakarn Team for a wonderfull time!

We travel quite often and usually stay in very good hotels, but this place is… well, it is what we would describe as paradise. The very special experience started already with the pick up service at Phuket Airport – the first time that we were served a welcome drink in a limousine. After the doors closed and the busy world around as went silent, we realized that this time something might be different…

When we arrived we found out that we were the only guests for the next two nights. That was actually a pleasant surprise as we really intended to relax there. However for some people this might also be a bit awkward. We must admit that you need to get used to it. The staff was always around, trying to fulfill every single wish we had. Although the staff might need some more training, we felt that the service came from the heart and that they tried their best to improve every single day.

We highly appreciated the fact, that the GM came over to visit us at our Pool villa and took the time to tell us more about the resort. This gives it all a very welcomed and familiar feeling.

The resort itself is very beautiful, small and offers extremely high standards. They choose the best from the best regarding towels, linen, interior etc. The Pool villa we stayed in was located right at the front and offered a very nice garden view. Our pool was not very private, due to the fact that the plants haven not grown very high, but we enjoyed the garden view very much. The design and furnishing of the villa was excellent and we loved the huge oversized king bed.

But what we enjoyed most was the beach. It is really hard to find deserted beaches in Thailand nowadays. 37 kilometers of sand and salty water and only a couple of fishermen to be seen. Wonderful!

We were provided with two bicycles. They were not just regular bicycles; even here they selected high quality Trek bikes. We took the opportunity to explore the nearby surroundings. The roads around the resort are not really frequented and biking around that area is therefore quite safe.

As the resort lies quite remote it will be difficult to find other restaurants in near proximity but you shouldn’t worry about that as we would like to highlight the extremely good chef. She is a very attentive and young woman, who creates dishes, which leave you speechless. She adds a twist to the Thai food, which makes it special, yet keeps it simple and you really get to taste the different ingredients. For the second night of our stay, she specially cooked seafood for us, which was just delicious! Of course the menu is pricy for Thai standards but then again, you don’t go to such a place to save money.

Wanakarn is the perfect resort to relax, read a nice book, enjoy the sun, the wonderful beach and outstanding food! It’s heaven on earth.

Because if I do then more people will go visit this gem and it will be a secret no longer!

What an amazing stay we had! 6 nights in a pool villa passed by in a blink of an eye. First let me rave about the food - some of the best I have had and I consider myself quite the foodie. The Phad Thai was quite simply the best I have ever had. And even the double boiled consomme was perfection itself. From breakfast to dinner, every meal was an absolute pleasure.

Then we go on to the attention to detail, the service of the staff. Guests are made to feel so special! Everyone is not just polite but seem genuinely happy to see you. Greetings from everyone are heartfelt, not rote. Makes a big difference! And the small things do make a difference - fresh fruit in the room every day, flowers on the bed, beautifully folded towels and even toilet paper (yes - toilet paper is presented so well!), to name just a few things.

And then there is the setting - a beautiful beach,so green all around, quiet & peaceful - a more perfect restful getaway I could not have asked for!

A huge 'Thank You' to everyone at Wanakarn for making this unexpected escapade into a truly memorable holiday!

We have just spent a week in Wanakarn Beach Resort.

The resort is beautiful in an isolated part of the island keeping a wild nature with the best service of a 5 star luxury resort.

I share all the good comments that have been written in the past reviews.

The Pool villa is very nice, luxury furnished and keep your privacy.

There is a 100 people staff devoted to your well being, you can ask for everything you need and they will do their best. The service is at a very high level.

The Chief is already talentuous and will surely become soon one of the best even if she is still young.

The beach is wild and marvelous and the staff will bring you whatever you need.

The manager is taking care of your well being and is always near when you need it and will do his best for your satisfaction.

We where like other reviewers alone during the week or sometimes with an other couple who stayed for one night and even if we like privacy and to have a resort just for us we felt a little lonely in the evening with 15 tables empty around us and a Band playing only for us.

The food was good with some signature dishes figuring at breakfast, lunch and dinner. When you stay a week you like to find sometimes more simple in the menu and not always sophisticated dishes. Even if you can order everything you want and the Chief will do it for you. The Manager told us some more dishes will figure soon in the menu.

Having a glass of wine is a pleasure but at 750 bath it becomes luxury for a glass of wine from Chile. The manager assure us that very soon will figure less expensive wine in the list.

We didn't use the Spa so better see the other reviews. The rates were 4000-5000 baths but for a 90-120 minutes treatment.

There is a free shuttle leaving at 10 am and coming back at 3.00 pm but you are 60 minutes away from Phuket. We would have prefer the shuttle 5.00 pm-10 pm but it seems that other guests prefer it in the morning.

A nurse is present 24h/24

We loved the resort and hope to be back soon in november. The resort is still very young and not well known and that explain probably why we were alone during this week.

If I can add a world I will say it could be probably a good idea to give some more advantage for guests staying a week or more like :

- 20 to 30% discount on the food and the spa

- Once or twice a week a shuttle to the city to be there at late afternoon and the evening and perhaps the opportunity to have dinner somewhere else

- Add in the menu a few simple dishes and Thai Specialties.

- Add some Thai Wine in the Wine List, I taste some not so bad in Bangkok and as local they will avoid the import taxes and be more affordable.

Anyway, if you have the opportunity to spend a few days their, don't miss it you will never regret it.
