Having walked a little further than we had anticipated, we stopped here for a drink only for the charming waitress to persuade us that light lunch was also in order. A nice spot on a sunny day.

Thank Neil C

We had lunch here a few days ago after visiting the chateau. We were seated outside and served by two very pleasant and helpful young men, both extremely polite and even helped us out with the French wording on the menu! We did feel that it was a little pricey, around 10 Euros for a plate of various cold meats or cheeses, served with crusty bread but to be honest, no more expensive than anywhere else and the food was well presented and the service was impeccable, with both waiters being attentive without being "in your face". We would go again without hesitation.

Visited La Maison Vari for lunch today prior to dropping guests off at the airport...
Lovely setting with very friendly and efficient staff..
Food however was mediocre and over priced.

We arrived hot, sweaty and tired after pushing our bikes up the steep hill into Monbazillac on a baking hot day. We were welcomed by a young man who seated us at a shady garden table, thoughtfully moving it first so that we could keep an eye on our bikes. There were others eating outside at tables dotted around the large garden, all spaced out so that it was almost as if we had the place to ourselves. A carafe of chilled water appeared immediately and was promptly replenished whenever it needed it (frequently). The menu is simple, with gazpacho and various cold plates of local produce. We chose a selection of cheeses and the Périgourd plate of foie gras, duck breast, rillettes, etc to share with bread, all delicious. In all, three young men and a woman did the serving, presumably Mme Vari and her sons. All were unfailingly polite, attentive and charming. The Vari wines are available by the glass and you only have to ask about one to get a full description. To round off a leisurely meal we had a cafe gourmand, the "gourmand" part comprising several small cakes which were probably bought in (not that that mattered) and were more substantial than the usual petit fours. When we'd finished, there was absolutely no hurry to give us the bill and get rid of us. Instead, Madame asked if we'd like to relax in a deckchair and went off to get a couple for us. She left us under a tree with a small table for our water, and I think we'd still be there now if we hadn't had a plane to catch, it was so pleasant. This is not a gourmet experience (although the food is perfectly good), think of it as a simple, light lunch in a lovely garden and you won't be disappointed. It was like having lunch in the garden at a friend's house, but with better service. If you need somewhere to eat before getting to Bergerac Airport, this is it. There are indoor tables too for when the weather isn't good.

Lovely garden, very friendly service and great food in a marvelous setting. We recommend it to your readers, a nice change from the traditional French restaurant. We had a table in the garden which is very nice.
