“An Oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2014

An Oasis set amongst tropical gardens. Yes bananas are grown here.
Upon opening the car door, meeting Joyce and Rex, we felt so relaxed after a long trip around the East Cape. With short notice we were invited to join Joyce and Rex for a barbeque for dinner. The quite lulled us to sleep in a comfy bed with ensuite. Next morning awakening to bird song we were offered a monster breakfast. If we venture back this way again it is a must stop off. Highly recommended

A fantastic place to stay on the East Cape, whether passing through or spending time at Te Kaha. Rex, Joyce and Peter are wonderful hosts. Great rooms. Large gardens. Excellent views out to the ocean. Rex cooks a mean breakfast and Joyce does a mean dinner. Highly recommend.

We were offered dinner when we phoned bug declined but when arrived we had changed our mind and Rex and his wife happily supplied a delicious dinner at short notice which was greatly appreciated.
Great place to stay Thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality, food and rooms.

We stayed here for 2 nights over the Easter weekend. Rex and Joyce are really good hosts. We had the upstairs room which was essentially 2 bedrooms with a living area. Breakfast was amazingly yummy and was the dinner.

If we ever come back this was, we are sure to stay with them again.

Pulled up, Rex popped out and said you must be Gordon & Kay, that's a first.

We'd only got the bags in the room a few minutes when afternoon tea appeared outside our room on the deck. A couple of hours later and we were offered a glass of wine, then shortly after dinner was served. This was Snapper & Gurnard caught by Rex the day before and delicious as only fresh fish can be.

Next day after a hearty breakfast we went on a Horse trek in the hills behind Te Kaha with Selwyn, a local Maori guide organised by Rex, and had a lovely day out.

More drinks on the deck, followed by another home cooked and tasty meal punctuated by a couple or three of Rex's yarns, rounded out a perfect day.

I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a taste of the real New Zealand. It's like staying with a family friend who has a very nice house in a superb setting.

This is NZ hospitality at it's best, laid back and easy going. Kay & I both loved it.

We were greeted warmly by Rex and Joyce and made to feel at home straight away. Rex brought us afternoon tea and were given an excellent room with a deck overlooking the beautiful garden. We were able to walk round the garden and met the horse and two delightful dogs.

Very peaceful and tranquil on a beautiful afternoon. Later a glass from the cellar whilst watching tv in the lounge.

Substantial and delicious breakfast served by Rex, with home made fruit marmalade and jams. Fresh fruit and juice too.

We recommend anyone travelling to Te Kaha to treat themselves to a very comfortable stay at Tui Lodge. We certainly will stay there in the future when travelling in the area.

Our arrival was like coming home with Rex eeting us at the door and asking if we would like a cup of tea. We had a choice of rooms and the room we chose was very comfortable with a view over the garden In the evening we had an excellent meal - fish caught by Rex himself.. This is a very spacious B & B, situated in beautiful gardens and with views over to White Island. We look forward to staying again sometime in the future. David and Carolyn Kirk
