“Lake beauty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

The surroundings of this hotel are overwhelmingly beautiful, situated as it is on the shore of the deep Hornindal lake. We stopped overnight on our way to the North West coast of Norway, and as a nice surprise, we found that our room had a balcony facing the lake - needless to say we sat there half the night enjoying the summernight. The room itself was clean - minus for a clogged bathroom washbasin! The breakfast was adequate.
All in all, we enjoyed ourselves.

We arrived extremely late that evening, but the staff still made us sandwiches and made us feel home and welcome. The rooms were really nice and the view magnificent!
Really for the late review, but better late than never, right?

I found this hotel by accident, just looking for a place in the region away from the zoo-like atmosphere of Geiranger. What a treasure. My bedroom window literally opened directly out onto the beautiful fjord-like deep water lake of Hornindalsvatn, as beautiful a view to wake up to as there is in the world! It was the off season and the hotel was being used for a poetry reading and accordion playing gathering of local elderly Norwegians - very charming. The hotel restaurant was "closed" but the charming and helpful staff whipped up a dinner for me on a moment's notice. And the price was very low, even by Norwegian standards.

From this charming and well situated hotel, you can explore the entire region, including the amazing Briksdalbreen Glacier, the little known (but extremely worthwhile) Route 655 which will take you to villages right out of the film Local Hero, the unreal section of Route 60 from Stranda, and much more. The perfect base.

Key points:
Awesome staff. Amazing location. Good quality food for breakfast and plentiful selections. Good buffet dinner. Clean room and hotel. Good Wi-fi. Spacious room, sporting a lovely armchair and footrest, and a balcony. Nice comfortable wide bed.

Initially I was planning to stay at the Best Western Raftevold Hotel for just one night, but after my arrival there, I decided to extend my stay for an additional day. Arriving late in the afternoon, tired after travelling for many hours on my bike, I was greeted by the most breathtaking view of lake Hornindalsvatnet (Europe’s deepest lake, 514 meters deep). The lake’s eastern shore starts right from the patio of the hotel… Sitting just inches from the lake, absorbing the beauty of it along with the surrounding mountains was the most amazing view from any hotel I’ve been!

The second feature that makes this hotel stand out is its staff. Always willing and helpful they made my stay comfortable and relaxed. Special credit goes to the front desk manager, Mr. Stephane Bazin, who guided me to take one beautiful scenic route with my motorcycle, while exploring around the area, which I would never had found by myself!

Raftevold is a nice old hotel with a good location. The rooms are perfectly fine and clean, but the service at the hotel is not even near what i am expecting when i travel. The staff seemes bothered by your precence, and the information you get as a guest is not necessarily what you can expect. The outdoor swimmingpool must be the lake near by the hotel. I cant see anywhere else to swim. Still, If you should decide to go for a swim in the cold lake, you should check with the reception in advance to see if they have enough robes. This is one of the free perks of the hotel, but unfortunately they only have a few, and not nearly enough.

When we arrived at the hotel we asked about the hours for breakfast and was told that it was open from 07.30 to 09.30 during the weekend. All due resprect, This is quite early to close the breakfast on a sunday morning. Anyhow, the reason I reacted on this later on, was that I read that the breakfast actually did not close until 10. When I asked the receptionist about this he told us that the right time was 10, but, they tell people 09.30 so they dont come in to late.. This is not the right way to do it. Either its 09.30 or 10.

Hornindal is a great place to see, and is surrounded by lovely nature. Instead of staying at the Best Western I'll rather go camping next time.

This is one of those times you think that your on Candid Camera. We ordered a nice weekend between the stunning mountains and fjords of the Møre og Romsdal, in western Norway. The hotel of choice was Raftevolds Hotel. Poor choice it soon turned out.

First joke:
We warned wile booking that we would have to arrive late, do to long hours at work.
We got a candid remark from the receptionist on how late we arrived, rather than a "welcome, and how was your trip".

Second joke.
Since we arrived late, we asked what the breakfast hours was for the week end. The answer was 09.30.
As it turns out, breakfast during the weekends are all the way to 10.00 o´clock. Only that the staff tells the guest that it is 09.30, otherwise the guests come in too late.

Third joke.
After the late arrival we decided to drop the early breakfast we where offered. When we went to the cafe next morning, we got a rude remark on how late we slept in. (At this point I must stress that this actually IS true.)

Forth joke.
In the in-house-leaflet on the room the hotel offers the guests a rental bath robe. We asked for to, but where told they had a few, but they where all out, so no bath robes for us.

Fifth joke.
In the travelers book of Best Western hotels, it is informed that this hotel has an out door swimming pool. Guess what; there is none.

There are so many nice hotels in Western Norway. This is not one of them.
