We stayed in one of the beach front villas. We were very impressed by the size of the room, the size of the bathroom, the outside shower (as well as the inside shower) and the air-con. All of this in addition to being a couple of paces away from the water. Highly recommend taking a trip to swim with the turtles. A very enjoyable weekend on Savai'i

We stayed in one of the beach villas in December, so it was slow season and rainy. But we were prepared for that and really loved it. The villa was very spacious, well equipped and nicely decorated in local materials. Most importantly, it was a stone's throw to a beautiful beach with pretty good snorkeling (lots of live coral and small to medium sized fish, a few eels, etc). The outdoor showers were fun, too. Food in the restaurant was very good. All the staff were friendly and helpful. You don't go to Samoa expecting five star resorts, and this is certainly not one. But it was just what we hoped for.

We stayed at Stevensons in Manase (Savaii) in the beach villas for 3 days in late November. Initially we thought that the villa fale accommodation was a little shabby and the food mediocre, but after seeing other accommodation at Manase, realised Stevensons was in fact the pick of the bunch. We were going to stay at Tanus beach fales (next door) but found Stevensons to be more to our requirements, so booked back in and stayed in the open beach fales for a further 3 days.
Each night entertainment was provided; singing, dancing, fire performance and local village choir.
All meals are included with the accommodation. We found them to be a bit hit and miss (especially for vegetarians). Some meals such as the fresh fish n chips and beef curry were great. The fresh fruit; pawpaw and coconut was lovely, but the pasta and soup poor.

I would recommend Stevenson’s, but don’t expect gourmet food and a pristine resort. Like most tropical countries there are swarms of cockroaches and mosquitoes. The open fales have lizards and geckos, but that adds to the flavour.

The water in the taps was sticky, so I expect it may be UV treated or salinated?

The snorkelling was good, but some of the coral was dead and limited to branching coral.

Overall the staff were friendly and polite and the service good.

Be careful with ferries from Uplou to Savaii, they don’t always run when they say they are.

If your looking for a true samoan experience the place to stay is stevensons at manase. The beaches were absolutely stunning by the stevensons fales, your not far from the villages and the complementary breakfast lunch and dinners were soooo good there were even performances at night dining. They have tour guides available to take you around the island if you happen to leave everything to the last minute. The workers are very friendly and help you out no matter what goes wrong as we should know.... had our own little hick ups with our visa.... stevensons were so helpful. especially be good to a lady called Mel from the bar she was awsome. We will definitly be back and will be taking people with us.

I'd definitely recommend a stay at Stevenson's in Manase if you're heading to Samoa. Take one of the simple beach fales unless you're desperate for extra comforts - they are right on the beach and the sunsets here are just divine!

The restaurant and bar is solid, with plenty of local entertainment nightly, reasonable food and decently priced drinks. By Samoan standards it is all a bit over-developed, but it depends what you're looking for. Hardcore backpackers will prefer less touristy places than Manase, but if you like a bit of everything then this is the place for you. Loved it and will definitely be back.
