“Peaceful and friendly, Tracy”
Reviewed 18 August 2012

Just returned from five nights at Stevensons, staying in a beach front villa. We had a very relaxing time swimming, snorkeling and generally chilling out. The staff are the real asset of this hotel. They are friendly and attentive. We ate all of our meals there, and although the choice was limited, we like fish so it didn't bother us. Loved the outdoor shower, very cute! We'll be back.

Room Tip: Villa was private and on the beach front

After reading the reviews after I had booked a villa at Stevensons, I was a little apprehensive as to what to expect. We had one of the beach front villas (not fale) and really loved it. Had everything we required, plus they had made up the fold out double couch in to a bed for our daughter. Really loved the shower being outside in the open out the back of our villa, gave it a real tropical feel. We were lucky enough to have villa 3, which is the only one that had solar heated water, so never ran out of hot water. A couple of the other villas had hot water issues & I know one took a few days to get it seen to. Units were serviced each day; beds made, towels changed, milk, tea, coffee replaced, unit was swept & mopped, and the deck out front was swept. Everything was lovely & clean. The beach was absolutely gorgeous, water warm & pristine. Unfortunately at some stage our villa was broken in to and some money was stolen. The staff were very apologetic and came and fixed the doors on all the villas to give a bit extra security. Bit of a learning curve to be extra careful when travelling, this could have happened anywhere, even in good old NZ. We didn't have a problem with ants, there were the odd few around (went in July) but nothing major. The staff were very helpful, friendly and just fantastic. Had a night where they cooked an umu which was really enjoyable & great value. We thought all the meals ranged from good to fabulous. Happy hour (or 2 hours) each day was even better value!! They even got the big screen out for us to watch the Chiefs game. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would recommend it to others and will be looking forward to returning one day. Make sure you go out on the glass bottom boat that leaves daily from the Beach resort down the road.

Room Tip: We loved the villas, self contained without being flash. Right on the beach front, relaxing & f...

We stayed in the beachfront fales. Was nice to be sleeping without walls- a bit like "glamping".
The location was nice and exceptionally quiet. Right on the beachfront with water lapping up in the lagoon just in front of the deck.
Stevensons has a beautiful restaurant and bar area which is hidden completely from view, and lush tropical gardens. Walkways are covered with thatching and the landscaping effort in the whole resort is fantastic to see.
The only hesitation, which would be easily resolved, is that it is very hard to get any information about anything. Staff are very freindly but English is not a forte with many of them. Reception is mostly left unnattended and there are no facilities in the rooms for tea or coffee making if you are partial. An information booth with local tourism brochures would be a welcome addition to the reception area so you can plan your holiday yourself.

Room Tip: Beach front fales are quite basic but beds and bug nets are good. Showers are not hot - but who need...

Beautiful beach to swim and to gaze at from your room. The food was great and staff friendly. Only slight issue was that the water pressure in the shower was low.
Aroiung the next bay had a nice place to snorkel and even saw a whale!

Great location - absolutely wonderful people.

We just stayed here for 4 nights with our 3 young children in a beach villa and had a ball. The staff are brilliant and so helpful. Don't expect luxury but who needs it in the most fantastic location. Yes there were some ants but for goodness sake its a tropical island!! Food at restaurant was gorgeous and breakfast was yummy!!! Cant wait to go back!!

Room Tip: We thought the Fales and the villas were better value than the suites and more private...

We stayed here for two nights in May. Booked a villa but on arrival it had ants all over the floor in the room, I couldn't stay in there, so paid for an upgrade to a delux villa which was really nice. no ants. Large room with good air con and super large lounge suite with room for 12 people on it. beds comfortable ,pillows a little hard. There was a musty smell about the pillows and beds at first, but I think the rooms had been shut up for awhile as it was not busy at all.
Linen needs replacing. beach towels are little more than rags, really nice balcony and new outdoor furniture and the best sunsets I have ever seen. All the delux villas are oceanfront. No beach chairs at all , so you have to lay on your towel. Food average. Staff really friendly .
So abit of good and bad. Depends on how fussy you are. I could never sleep in a fale. not the rough it kind of girl.no pool but beach good for swimming.

Room Tip: Unless you don't mind ants stay in a delux villa, great room. worth the extra money

Had 7 nights at Stevensons, Ready to leave after 1st nights in Villa, upgraded to Deluxe unit at our cost, Villa's dirty & crawling with ants. Toilet seat & cistern covered in black mould. No decent facilities & for price we paid, very poor. Deluxe Villa alot better, although still not clean & smelt like urine in bathroom. Girls at resort so lovely & tried their best. Saw the manager once, only by coincidence, not a very helpful lady at all. Menu absolutley shocking, everything fried to a crisp. Not much to choose from. Went down the road to Le Lagota for more meals than we had at Stevensons, awesome place - highly recommend it. Plenty to choose from with rolls & fresh salads as an option. Yay !
Plus they had loungers on beach to laze on as you do on holiday - Stevensons had nothing like that, you had to lie on the ant infested sand - really awful. Shame they had sunk a lot of money into a large venue for weddings, should of been put into swimming pool or beach loungers. Would not recommend Stevensons at all.

Room Tip: Dont believe the photos on internet. Read reviews

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments- rest assured your feedback has been passed on to the General Manager to address immediately, especially your concerns regarding room cleanliness, which are inexcusable and for this we unreservedly apologise.

We are currently sourcing some beach lounge chairs too so thank you for the suggestion. We feel these will be a great asset to our beach and eventually to our swimming pool which we are hoping to commence construction on next year.

Furthermore, we also have some kitchen staff undergoing training in NZ to revamp the menu and lift the standard of food.

Just wanted to let you know that we have taken your feedback on board and are attempting to address them as best we can.
