“Brilliant”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

On arrival at the restaurant we were welcomed most warmly by Joanne and made to feel at home. The warmth continued into the general ambiance of the room with the comfortable seated area and the blazing log fire.
The menu had an excellent combination of meals on offer and our choices when eaten were superb. The quality of the food was excellent and the sauces fitted perfectly.
Tables were of a generous size, which is important, properly spaced out so that you did not have to listen to other people's conversations and the chairs, the most comfortable restaurant chairs I have every sat upon.
In total it was more than a meal it was a very enjoyable experience - can't wait to go back. It was brilliant

Chateau de Mavaleix, Chaleix, France

You check in at the restaurant. Our hostess greeted us warmly. I think we may be the only guests at least as of 4pm. But it is probably because it is very early in the season. You can see that life around the chateau is just waking up to spring. Our hostess was very busy however preparing for a private party in the evening of 29 guests. Unfortunately this will mean no dining at the hotel restaurant tonight but we can get food at the bar which is located in another building. Saturday nights they have a set menu. It was delicious sausage and potatoes, a cheese course and a custard-like dessert. Excellent. (Owners are Dutch which explains the mostly non-french meal.)

Anyway our rooms are located just above the restaurant-thought we might have a noise problem due to the party but they were pretty quiet. Good night's sleep. The room itself is nice and clean. Clean bathroom, etc. Free wifi without any password hassle like at big hotels. The place definitely needs some updating but they have only had the place since March 2o13 so they have plans to make changes in time.

Turned out we were the only guests. We had a small light breakfast of meats, cheese and croissants. I would definitely recommend this lovely quiet little spot. It's a good location for exploring the area's famous chateau s.

Turned up at 10:00 un announced on a dark cold night, with in an hour fed watered and treated like longtime friends, couldn't have been made more welcome, fantastic people, out of this world chateau, fantastic shower warm clean rooms, comfy beds, slept sound. Not a negative word to say, if you're passing please call in.

A big big thank you

Room Tip: A warm one in the colder months... It is a 500 year old castle, or the building opposite the chateau...
