We were informed our prepaid reservation at Hotel Vistamar meant nothing and the front desk actually laughed in our faces at our misfortune. Luckily we were able to get them to walk us over to Casa Larocque.

Luc the owner/manager heard our plight and took us in and gave us a reasonable rate considering it is the busiest time of year for hotels in Pochomil during Semana Santa. Everywhere was absolutely booked out.

So instead of spending our last three days of honeymoon in some dirty hostelwho knows where we got to stay in the quiet, clean and very accommodating Casa Larocque.

Luc truly saved the day and I couldn't recommend his place more highly. He had polite and helpful staff and a great little pool to cool off in. On top of that we hired an ATV and some beach chairs to enjoy this crazy time of year in Pochomil right from him. Another feature we took advantage of was the surprisingly well stocked gym. Everything you need to get your workout working.

Overall its been a very relaxing and pleasant experience. They truly rescued our vacation.

Thanks Casa Larocque!!!

My husband and I just stayed two nights at Larocque. We are regulars in Nicaragua as our son lives here, so we have stayed in many places over the years. We loved the ambiance of Lucas and Marguerite's hotelito just 50 m from the beach. It was impeccably clean, rooms and lounge areas by pool and upstairs hammock balcony. But it was the atmosphere they created of making us feel so at home that made us love it so much. Lucas was a warm and inviting host right from the start. Marguerite's baby-back ribs are to die for! The best we've ever tasted anywhere including the best rib joints in the US. Hands down the best! And Marguerite's banana/chocolate breakfast bread, wow, just exploded in your mouth with flavor. And our guest host, Lola, their family friend, was so much fun, and can we mention what a great waitress she was??? We highly recommend Larocque to anyone, as a sweet get-away next to a fabulous beach off the beaten track.

Room Tip: All rooms upstairs, we had front room. Liked it although a window with view would have been nice. But right outside room was the big balcony with hammocks and chairs. Great place to do yoga.

My wife, Emily, and I stayed with Luke a couple years ago. We had no reservations, got dropped off on some gravel road and ran into this hidden gem. Beautiful pool was our first site and then the rooms were vey spacious, clean, and very quite. Luke "el Hefe" took us under his wing and took us to his local watering hole. To make a long story short we ended up going to bed when the sun rose. We met a couple of Luke's friends and ended up hanging with them for a week. Luke invited us to his xmas family dinner. This was after traveling for a couple weeks and we had this huge huge american feast! It was so great for him to do that.

Great accomodations in a very private and secure location just an hour away from Managua and just minutes from the best beach in the area! Great food at very reasonable prices for a beach resort location.

The food was great, the dog is sweet, and Luc is a really nice guy. The rooms were well appointed, with very nice linens, and nice but uncommon touches like drinking water for brushing teeth provided (drinking water beyond that you pay for, but they sell it cheap and cold). The whole place had been done with a nice eye for style, nice tile, etc. The pool is nice (it was a little dirty the first day we were there, but with the crazy wind while we were there it was unavoidable, and it was cleaned up the next day). The prices are in line with the rest of Pochomil and Masachapa. We were looking for cheaper places, but Pochomil and Masachapa are not places for backpackers like us.

I was less excited about the room we were in because it had no real windows besides a small one in the bathroom, and all the rooms are on the top floor so they heat up quick with the sun - and I'm not a big fan of A/C. But there was A/C, and we were in the cheapest room in the hotel, so it was okay. I was also not excited about the gym - the whole hotel opens into the middle, including the gym, so you hear gym noises (clanging, some grunting) quite a lot of the time. Not a big deal for fitness buffs, but for lazy folks like me, it didn't add to the relaxation.

Overall, a nice place, but I think I wouldn't recommend it to folks that travel like I do.

Room Tip: Pay more for the good ones!
