“What can I add?”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

The campsite has been very fairly reviewed below. I would like to add that I just can't get over how clean and well maintained it all was! The field that we camped on had grass better looked after than our lawn at home. My kids played cricket on it! Only stayed 2 nights but thoroughly enjoyed it.

Room Tip: Take a decent tent! The wind and rain whip across those fields....

We visited on a school holiday camping trip with family. The owners were really friendly and welcoming and ensured that we had pitches together which was great as often we have found this to be difficult.

We were in a back field which was near to the toilet block and had pitches along the wall leaving the rest of the field free for the kids to roam and play which was excellent and we didn't feel hemmed in. The site was fairly quiet as there aren't many places to congregate like playgrounds.

The shower blocks and toilets are modern and kept spotlessly clean. There are only 3 (or 4?) showers but there was always one available when needed. No hair dyers or plug sockets.

There was an activity for the children with Farmer Ed which was a great idea but we found out about it too late to join in.

There are a lot of rules but these were adhered to and resulted in a pleasant stay with little noise and disruption which was fantastic for us as we like our sleep! There isn't anything to do for the kids but we brought games and they were happy with this and made their own entertainment. Plenty of local footpaths to explore and nearby attractions so nobody was bored! Buxton was just down the road with a Morrisons and Waitrose for provisions.

Overall a lovely and well kept site, would heartily recommend.

Stayed for a couple of nights at this wonderful little campsite. realy basic in the way of facilities but nice and close to Buxton and it has a little fishing pond.
The surroundings are kept nice and neat and the staff are friendly and helpful, watch out for some of the recommendations on places to eat though.
Toilet block is a bit of a trek late at night if you are in a tent nice and easy if you have a caravan.
The fishing is pretty good really nothing outstanding in the pond but nice healthy looking fish and its great for kids to learn and practice. If i am ever in the peak district again i'd certainly look them up

We had been planning our camping trip to The Peak District for some time and when we arrived at Shallow Grange for our 4 night stay and we were met with a warm welcome and were certainly not disappointed. The facilities on site are excellent with several mains water points and modern toilet / shower facilities (with plenty of cubicles so no long waiting times) which were regularly cleaned. There is a laundry room at the back of the shower block which is also home to a freezer - an excellent facility, if like us, you travel with ice blocks and cooler boxes - for a refundable £5 deposit we were issued with a key which then gave us unlimited access to the freezer for the duration of our stay....I even saw some ice creams in there too! Though sadly not ours :( There were lots of electric hook ups also - although we didn't use these.

The owners have gone to ALOT of effort to make their family farm accessible, clean and welcoming. The whole campsite is accessed via a security coded barrier, and there are several very large, flat, fields for all sizes of tents. There are lots of beautiful walks nearby and the owners are more than happy to discuss options with you and offer local advice :)

Room Tip: If you are planning a visit during the Summer or over a 'hot weekend' like we've just ha...

We stayed for two nights this is a great site with excellent facilities. Never had to wait for a hot shower. Pitches are a bit close together but take a windbreak and you will not be overlooked. Ed the farmer is a legend!

We have just spent 8 nights here and have had the most wonderful time EVER !!!! The location is beautiful and the facilities are excellent. The owners are a lovely friendly couple, i never saw them without a smile on their faces even at the weekend when the site was full. We had only booked for 4 nights and loved it so much we asked for another 4. We will never bother looking at other sites in the Peak district as Shallow Grange is perfect :-)

What a weekend! the campsite and weather were perfection. This was the first time I stayed at Shallow Grange but I will certainly be returning. I organised a visit for 14 people on the weekend of 5th & 6th July and from the very first contact I had with Marilyn we were made to feel very welcome. You get the impression some campsites don't want large groups but this is not the case here, more than accommodating. The site is large and they make the point of not overcrowding, you really feel you have your own space. The surrounding area is stunning, rolling hills surround the site and in the distant you can see the nearby stone circle overlooking the valley.
The facilities are all top notch and cleaned regularly and provide recycling bins for all your waste, which is a plus point for me.
I highly recommend this campsite, whether your a seasoned camper or a newby, it ticks all the boxes. The local pub, the Church Inn in Chelmorton is a lovely spot also, great beers and good food.
Thanks so much Shallow Grange for a fab camping experience.
