The site is very clean and the owners seemed welcoming on our arrival. Our pitch was in the front field with ehu. The field slopes down and felt very exposed in the night when the wind really picked up. The pitch also seemed narrow compared to others we've stayed on with our guy ropes overlapping with the neighbours and no space for a car between the tents on either side. Our car was parked at the front of the tent which wouldn't have been a problem if next doors children hadn't been playing cricket right next to it!
I heard many complaints from other campers whilst there, including people moaning about hearing talking in other tents, families getting up early and cars leaving site before 8am. Maybe if the pitches were better spaced people could speak in more than a whisper and as this site is advertised as family friendly surely other campers should expect early starts (if they don't like it then go to an adult only site!)
Lots of rules about being quiet which to me seemed a little extreme and maybe unachieveable on a family site. These felt restrictive and after overhearing the complaints from others made me very cautious. We found ourselves constantly talking in whispers and telling the children to do the same (and believe me they weren't noisy at all, just reading and drawing most of the time).
We always book sites without play areas and entertainment because we prefer the kids to make their own entertainment. This usually makes for a lovely friendly atmosphere on site with children playing together, but not here, the girls didn't even play ball in the bottom field for fear of complaint. I've never stayed on a campsite with such miserable people before, no-one sitting outside tents or chatting to other campers, if this is the sites usual clientele they're not for us. We originally intended on staying three nights but left after two,

We have just returned from a Bank Holiday weekend at Shallow Grange camp site. We were warmly welcomed, and given all the information we needed for our stay. We had 2 tent pitches in the main field - we were in the bottom corner near the arrival lane and on a bit of a slope, but were able to pitch our tents securely. The camp site was intended to be a quiet family orientated site, and that is exactly what it was - families enjoying the outdoors with no shouting, loud music or other distractions - perfect. The shower and toilet block did not seem large for the size of the site, but there were never any queues, and staff worked incredibly hard to keep the floors clean. Great location and great scenery - we will be back!

The campsite has been very fairly reviewed below. I would like to add that I just can't get over how clean and well maintained it all was! The field that we camped on had grass better looked after than our lawn at home. My kids played cricket on it! Only stayed 2 nights but thoroughly enjoyed it.

Room Tip: Take a decent tent! The wind and rain whip across those fields....

We visited on a school holiday camping trip with family. The owners were really friendly and welcoming and ensured that we had pitches together which was great as often we have found this to be difficult.

We were in a back field which was near to the toilet block and had pitches along the wall leaving the rest of the field free for the kids to roam and play which was excellent and we didn't feel hemmed in. The site was fairly quiet as there aren't many places to congregate like playgrounds.

The shower blocks and toilets are modern and kept spotlessly clean. There are only 3 (or 4?) showers but there was always one available when needed. No hair dyers or plug sockets.

There was an activity for the children with Farmer Ed which was a great idea but we found out about it too late to join in.

There are a lot of rules but these were adhered to and resulted in a pleasant stay with little noise and disruption which was fantastic for us as we like our sleep! There isn't anything to do for the kids but we brought games and they were happy with this and made their own entertainment. Plenty of local footpaths to explore and nearby attractions so nobody was bored! Buxton was just down the road with a Morrisons and Waitrose for provisions.

Overall a lovely and well kept site, would heartily recommend.

Stayed for a couple of nights at this wonderful little campsite. realy basic in the way of facilities but nice and close to Buxton and it has a little fishing pond.
The surroundings are kept nice and neat and the staff are friendly and helpful, watch out for some of the recommendations on places to eat though.
Toilet block is a bit of a trek late at night if you are in a tent nice and easy if you have a caravan.
The fishing is pretty good really nothing outstanding in the pond but nice healthy looking fish and its great for kids to learn and practice. If i am ever in the peak district again i'd certainly look them up
