Wonderful (historic building, food, garden, and scenic views), in a rural hilltop serene old village (quite easily the best pub in all of Greater London).

Had lunch here with some friends and sat in the gazebo cover in the picture. Great for a number of us. Felt as though we were just on our own. Food was excellent and good choice. The gardens in the summer are very colourful and pretty. Definitely worth a visit

This pub has a stunningly beautiful setting - high on the hill with great views across the valley towards the lovely woodlands, abounding in trees. When the weather suits it would be delightful to sit outside, but the interior is also very appealing - look out for the exhibits relating to music hall star 'Little Titch' who was born in the 'Blacksmiths'.

Motivated staff take care of their customers. When we were there two of them generously spent a great deal of time and trouble to help a woman trying to find somewhere in the area.

The food was good - we had baked potatoes - and while the potatoes weren't big, the fillings certainly were and, along with nice salad accompanying them, this made for a very satisfying lunch.

Only reservation was that it took far too long from placing the order for two simple dishes - when the pub was far from busy - to getting them before us.

We are not drinkers so rarely go to pubs but this lunch was arranged by friends and we had a really good time. The food was freshly cooked and for a pub not a bad choice. Service was reasonly quick and very friendly.

Thanks for a great lunch yesterday.
The 4 of us really enjoyed our meal.
Booked in for 2:30 we were seated and given just the right amount of time to read the menu, drinks order taken etc.
2 Roast Beef, 1 Roast Lamb and a fantastic Steak and kidney pudding.
All superb.
Server asked if everyone was happy and then left us alone.
Some places are too in your face.
Perfect!
We will be back!!
