Beautiful cottage, wonderful host, awesome breakfast, scrumptiously comfortable bed & roaring log fire...made our one night stay truly memorable. The beautiful crisp morning and the birds tweeting only added to the wonderful charm! Thanks very much to Alison & of course Harry!

Having thought we'd booked a straight forward B&B, we were delighted to find we had half a cottage to ourselves. Beautifully furnished, comfortable and warm, with the excellent added bonus of a roaring log fire (fuel provided). The bedroom was comfortable and the bathroom well furnished.

Alison is an excellent host, providing a welcoming tea tray on arrival with home baked cake. The breakfast is marvellous and sets you up for the day ahead.

Alison's little Yorkshire terrier, Harry, is a delight, with a friendly, playful character.

We would highly recommend this accommodation and definitely plan a return visit.

Room Tip: Double bedded rooms only, so good for couples.

A lovely little cottage right in the heart of Birchover and in a great part of the Peak District.

Very welcome host who cooks a superb homemade breakfast with all of the trimmings. All locally sourced. Just don't be in a rush as homemade means very relaxed on the timings.

Good for a couple of couples as there are two bedrooms, a separate lounge and nice big bathroom.

Dog friendly, nice pub nearby and you can walk from the door to so many places. Open wood burning fire for those cold british nights with wood provided.

Great base for many places in the peak district.

Our seventh, or is it eighth, trip to Poppy Cottage? We love going to our little hideaway in the Peak District and have been as just the two of us and also as two couples with good friends. Although the other reviews say it all, I'll say it again. Alison is a superb host, very friendly and helpful and her breakfasts are a treat! She handles the demands of a meaty and a veggie with equal aplomb - I wish everywhere were as accommodating. A wonderful, cosy, homely place, book-lined walls, real fire, piano and an ideal setting. We still, even after being back many times, still have the feeling of being somewhere really special. Birchover itself is a picturesque Peak village, walkers can follow either many walks in the immediate area or venture further afield. For those looking for a more relaxing time, Bakewell is great and the Peak District is small enough for you to use Poppy Cottage as a base for your forays to see the many other attractions on a day out with ease. Dinner is very straightforward, Matteo at the Red Lion is a superb chef with a great team and a very foody outloook - homemade cheeses and the impending microbrewery to name but a few of the gourmet delights that won't break the bank. We are always looking forward to our next trip to Poppy, the couple with whom we usually go were very jealous that we'd managed to squeeze in a night over half term without them! A very, very highly recommended B&B.

Found this little B&B by chance searching online (it's actual site is www.poppycottagebandb.co.uk with more pics) and it was a real find, we plan to come back again on our next trip. It feels quite personal with lots of books, some DVDs and even a piano in the downstairs lounge area. It's located in the small village of Birchover which has two great pubs - The Druid's Inn in particular takes upmarket pub food to a wonderful new level! Several local walks start from Birchover, making it ideal for bad weather as we had a couple of days, and coming back to the lit fire, fluffy bathrobes, cosy lounge and comfy bed at the cottage! On good days when you can go further afield, it's only down the road from Matlock and Bakewell. Highly recommend the walk in particular around Ladybower Reservoir. Alison makes a very filling and lovely breakfast which sets you up for a long day of hiking - she is a great host, nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended for couples (or two couples as there are two double bedrooms) - it is a great little place to stay!

This cottage has room for 4 people (two double rooms), a lovely big bathroom and a cosy lounge/dining area. I stayed here with my girlfriend over a long weekend and it was a great base for our expeditions around the Peak District.

We had a fantastic stay at Poppy Cottage. Alison did everything to make us feel welcome and comfortable, a perfect host. The Cottage is in a lovely village with a couple of pubs (The druid Inn for something special and the Red lion for some top quality grub).

We went in December when there was heavy snow, and it really added something extra to the Peak District, it makes you see it in a totally differently light, I recommend it! Alison lit the fire every evening so it was lovely to come in from a long day of walking through the snow to take the chill off with a cup of tea in front of the roaring fire.
One of the unexpected highlights of the holiday was Alison’s breakfast. All the food was locally sourced and everything was freshly made each day and with a good variety of cereals/jams, fresh fruit and yoghurt and cooked options. It sets you up well for a long day of hiking ahead of you.

Poppy Cottage is located near to many good walks; a couple worth mentioning is the one behind the Druid Inn and another that takes you to the Nine Ladies (ancient stone circle). Alison has a large collection of guide books so enough reference material to help you decide on the best places to visit and what walks to do. It’s also only a short drive to the lovely little towns of Matlock and Bakewell and Chatsworth House is a large manor house that is also worth visiting if you get time.

This place is a little gem of a B&B and we will be back. :-)
